I'm not that surprised by this. It is very interesting though.

Very interesting indeed River Also found this comment interesting as I remember some of the confrontation & comments from Mick (Janty rep) that went on when Eastmall first started selling the Riva - " Not surprising at all. Prior to the launch of the RIVA, it was posted on the Janty sub (by Mick) that the 750mAh batt that Janty was working on at the time was rejected because of sub par PCBs (didn't meet spec). Of course what to do with all these batteries? A month later the Riva appears on the scene. The first eGo clone. Of course JoyE doesn't make batteries perse, so Janty doesn't realy have a say in who uses the rejected batteries. Since, the Riva from SE on does not house that chip."Edit just to say I'm not saying the above is fact - far from it, but the info just adds to the debate

I've a Riva, but as a n00b, I don't understand the implications that you guys may (or may not) understand.
Is the Ego a more expensive (and assumed better quality) version of the Riva; yet it's been discovered that they're both the same item?

It's all very confusing Tosh but basically the Janty Ego is made by Joytech (I believe). It is re-branded by Totally Wicked & sold as the Tornado.
The Riva came along later as a copy/knock 0ff & to begin with there was talk that Janty where going to sue the makers of Riva. But from that video, as they both have a Joye battery in them, it looks like all the parts come from the same place.

It's not something that I worry about too much now Tosh. I have had kits that are both worse and better quality than the Joyetech ones.
If a manufacturer wants your custom they will take on board any feedback and make improvements, so things are improving slowly.

Strangely enough I've found the Riva batteries are far better than the tornado batteries! Now I know it's just pot luck as they're all exactly the same apart from the outer switch! LOL
