Been reading several threads on the "forums" regarding the tiny nuts that go on the pozi/earth posts on the Spheroid. I don't have large fingers but with a tad of arthritis, I find it quite difficult to tighten the nuts when recoiling. So I decided to make things easier. First I took each nut and whilst holding it between a pair of bull nosed pliers, I cut a small slot into the top (the slightly bevelled end) using a Dremel type tool using one of the supplied cutting wheels. I also purchased a jewellers screwdriver set from the pound shop, cant remember the cost........and taking the largest slotted screwdriver, I also cut a deep slot into the end, making sure the slot was deep enough to go over the taller of the Spheroid posts and wide enough so as not to damage the post threading. This then allows you to tighten the nuts as easily as if they were screws. With the knurling still on the nuts, for those more dexterous amongst you, you are still able to re-coil using your fingers.

Nicely done Greigster, I love a good bit of innovation. Now you just need to take a good magnet and stroke it along your shaft several times to make handling your nuts even easier. Any takers?

Great idea, I often have problems getting them tight enough. A lot of the time I'll give them a bit of a twist with pliers to make sure but I realise this can damage the protective inserts over time and lead to shorts. On my second Spheroid now and still don't understand why they are so highly rated.

The majority of Spheroid owners rate it as one of the all time best atties both for flavour and vapour. Fortunately I am one of the lucky ones that "do get it" and that's why I have 4 of the little blighter's. I never want to teach people (especially grandmothers) to suck eggs but is there something that you are missing when re-wicking/coiling. What exactly is it that you find lacking.

I never want to teach people (especially grandmothers) to suck eggs but is there something that you are missing when re-wicking/coiling. What exactly is it that you find lacking. There's a couple of issues I can't get around with it to be honest. The main one is I can't find a setup that will wick well enough for chain-vaping. Usually after about two to three draws I start getting a burnt flavour. I'm using Juwel pads at the moment but have used the filler supplied by Vapourart in the past and have tried different amounts ranging from quite tightly packed right through to very loose but this doesn't seem to make any difference. The problem gets worse the less liquid I have in there but I don't want to be topping it up by 1/2ml all the time. I'm using a 2mm lasso wick with a 3/4 wrap of .2 kanthal but have also tried 3mm wick. I have the coil diagonal over the airhole but have also tried it over the posts as many people do. Pretty sure I'm not 'strangling' the wick as I have no problem coiling other rebuildables such as the Kayfuns and various drippers. The other (minor) problem I have is that I seem to get a strange 'stale' taste with it even when it's working well, the same overtone regardless of what liquid I have in there. Any advice would be greatly appreciated but I feel I've covered most of the bases. Shame because I love the look of the Spheroid and also like it's simplicity (enough for me to buy a second one after selling the first), it just seems to be very unforgiving

On the wicking problem, Have you tried the double lasso using 2mm. wick? The length of wick is folded into thirds, coiled in the centre then the loose ends trimmed back to the coil. That way you have the coil wrapped around 6mm. of wick and two separate lasso`s to feed the coil. I have used the "blue foam" from Vapourart and quite liked it. I use only one turn of foam with the two ends butted up, it must not be overlapped. i now use the Jewel pads which I give two complete turns. I do not chain vape so I dont know if the above will help you, but certainly just for fun, I have taken 6 or 7 longish toots of about 7 seconds in quick succession without any dry hit.
Regarding the stale taste, Have you taken the Spheroid base off (the bit that is reverse threaded) as I have heard of several people getting a strange taste and it seems that some of the Spheroids had a residue of machine oil in that area.
Hope some of the above helps.

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. I'll do a rebuilt later and try the double lasso and also try two turns of the jewel pads (only have one turn at the moment). As for the base, I've had it apart and cleaned it while replacing the protective inserts before so still confused about the taste. Anyway, I'll see how I go and hopefully I'll find a setup that suits me. Thanks again.

Anyway, I'll see how I go and hopefully I'll find a setup that suits me. Thanks again. The setup i settled on after trying many is : single wrap of the blue wonderfoam single 3mm silica wick 1.4ish ohm coil using .20mm wire 60pg/40vg homebrew juice - although the concentrate i use i suspect is unusually vg, so vg content may well be higher. Viscosity of your juice may affect how much filler you need. Use a similar setup in my Olympus swapping 3mm wick for 2 X 2mm wick, that works a treat too. It works for me & i like to keep things simple & this is as basic as it gets, only problem with this arrangement is juicy fingers when you top it up. Got 3 Spheroids all set up the same way & never get a dry hit, when flavour starts to drop off just top it off with 20 to 30 drops & it's good for another couple of hours. Not saying this is the right way but it's the one for me, hope you manage to find a setup that works for you.

Update - recoiled about an hour ago using a double lasso and also put a bigger piece of jewul pad in there. No matter how hard I try I cannot get a dry hit so thanks once again for the suggestion Don't know why I didn't try this earlier as I use a similar setup in the Kayfun but SO many people swear by the single lasso in a Spheroid. Guess you have to find what works for you... Taste is still a bit funky and I forgot to reduce the number of wraps so I'm using it VV for the time being. Still some tweaking to do but the main issue is fixed. I'm sure roll-ups were never this complicated. Anyway, apologies for the unintentional distraction, back to the subject of nuts.

Oh how things change, I was ready to throw in the towel with the Spheroid at the beginning of this thread. Since getting the setup right I've used nothing else and I've just bought another one
