Apologies in advance for a possibly dim question! I have googled and searched and I still don't really understand. Please can one of you lovely people tell me exactly what a dripping atomiser is, how it is used and do I need one?! I am just going to begin my journey into mixing my own and the impression I get is that I can test-vape a few drops with a dripping atomiser - is that right or am I way off the mark? And lastly, if I do need one - is there a recommended one? Thank you in advance for helping my ageing brain get to grips with all this!!

I'm glad you asked this sal. I'm going to try dripping soon and have no idea what I should use.

You just drip a few drops (4-8) onto the coils and wick and get about a dozen tokes from it before it dries out

stu1873 That looks a smart piece of kit Does it just screw directly onto the battery? I don't understand how it is different from just putting a couple of drops in the Protank - see, I said I was a bit dim Edited as just read your last replies! Thanks so much for your help welshwestie, hopefully we'll both get to find out all about this dripping business

Thank you @ blakey, how long do those last? I know it's kinda 'how long's a piece of string', but in your experience

+1 Blakey the igo-l is a brilliant piece of kit for the money but if you wan't to avoid coil building, then the 306-lr is the job ( as recommended by Perpetua I believe).

How hard is it to replace the coil in these @freefromsmoking? I am planning to start recoiling my protank just as soon as the kit arrives. If it is very technical I better steer away from it!!

Sal The simple answer to your question is 'No, you don't need one to test your diy mixes'. But if you add even a little juice, say 1/2 ml (enough to wick properly) to your protank and you find the juice is absolutely disgusting, then you will have to wash out the protank, let it dry and reassemble it before you can reuse it. With a dripping atty (rebuildable or otherwise) you are adding only a few drops of your juice and if you don't like the juice you can simply add a few drops of the next one and the flavour of the first one will be overcome within a few puffs. Also a lot of people drip full time as the flavour of the juice is enhanced in a dripping atty. Hope this helps you decide if you need / want one.

The recoiling is pretty straight forward but to build your own coils you need to be able to measure the resistance of the coil before using it to avoid shorting and possible battery damage. The resistance depends on the gauge of the wire and the number of coils among other things. There are loads of good videos on you tube showing how it is done. If you don't fancy building your own coil and wick, you can buy ready made ones and you just have to attach them to your atty. www.fasttech.com/products/0/10004596/1432701-replacement-heating-coils-for-rebuildableGood luck what ever way you go

Good youtube videos include those from pbusardo, Grimmgreen, todd and igetya69 (the first 2 are American and the latter two are British - all very informative)

For testing flavours a 306 atomiser is ideal.
I've had igo and octopus dripping atomizers, they are great, but for the purposes of the O.P. I'd say don't bother.
