I got a protank2 in the post today, stuck the 2.5 ohm head in it and yeah it's ok, I thought I'd rebuild the other head, shouldn't be a problem rebuilt hundreds of vivi's, terminator aga etc (even an iclear30, once!) wrong! Nothing but the most disgusting burning rubber taste you could imagine, a quick google around and lots of folk suggest no res/res combination but I can't see why it should be any different to a vivi?!? Exactly the same principle yet no no res wire required in a vivi. I've got plenty of nickel and silver no res wire but really can't be @rsed to use it on a clearo. What's everyone one else's view on this? It just doesn't make any sense, the grommit is definitely getting burnt, I cam see the scorch marks, what goes on?!?! I await your replies with baited breath! Chris.

Don't see why you would have to use no res wire though, be the same as a nova I would think?

I did six yesterday and just used res 0.16 wire with no problems. I think your problems are due to bad wicking. Did you put in a "flavour wick"? If you did check it's not flattened the main wick too much. I use 1.5mm eckowool for the main wick with a couple of 1mm flavour wicks over the top and they work great.

I've also been trying to rebuild my protank for the last hour or so using 2mm ekowool and 0.2mm Kanthal.
First couple of times were a disaster. Constant burnt taste, then I realised I was strangling the wick as I was threading a needle through the ekowool and wrapping fairly tight.
This time I used one of those tiny allen wrenches held alongside the wick and wrapped tight. This worked, 2.1? with 4 wraps and it seems to be vaping very well at 7.5W.
I'm not getting a burnt taste even though this time I didn't bother twisting the legs. I'm not using any flavour wicks either.
Having said that, perhaps doubling over the wire and twisting the legs is something you could try to lower the resistance of the wire that touches the grommet? It could be that the voltage you're vaping heats the legs up too much.

I did read somewhere on here, that the first few hits on the Davide would taste burnt, but it wears off....The Davide is the same set up as the Protank. I've re-wicked one of mine, but haven't tried it yet. I'll give it a go later & see if I'm getting it too.

Just received my pro2 in the post 20 mins ago filled it up and it vapes ok , just a little airy on the draw compared to the vivi novas but I will persevere with it on this tank full and have a think about making it less airy, apart from that its a nice looking atty.

Try making a small washer from felt,i did and it works a treat!

I have the protank 1 which I regularly recoil. I have noticed the burning on the gromit but does not affect my flavour. I have found a good build to be 2mm or 2.5mm silica doubled and the wrap the coils 4 times with. 20 kanthal. I have found the doubling of the wick soaks up more juice and there is double surface area for the wire so no dry hits. I have found this to be far better than the single wick and it removes the need for the extra flavour wick.

Thanks everyone, problem now solved, dodgy head! The grommit was split up the centre not noticeable unless you put the pin in without a wick and coil, only found out as the head is actually shorter than the other and was struggling to make contact with the centre pin on my evic. Rewicked the other one with doubled over 2mm and .2 kanthal with a slightly unraveled single piece of 1mm wick on top. It's vaping well now but I know I can get it better, the draw is not a prob for me as I'm using the BoD by Leo and you can adjust the airflow using the o ring and unscrewing the top cap half a mm or so. Verdict? Hmmm I quite like it at 1.8ohm up to about 7 1/2 watts higher than that and the grommit does add a slight burnt taste if you chain it. Will try 2.5 ohms next time. Thanks again. Chris.

Glad you got it sorted, and good to know the doubled over wick works for someone else
