O no Lilac. I think you and I were really lucky Daz . . . I should have paid charges, there was a big sticker on the box saying so, but it slipped through Parcel Force's system without me doing so.

Royal Mail handling charge is about £8, Parcelforce is about £13.
On top of that you'll pay VAT on the cost and shipping. I've heard stories of Provape putting a value of $40 on the customs form, so the VAT may be as little as £8 ($40 plus $30 shipping, IIRC). If you get stung for the full value, you might end up paying as much as £40 in total. Whatever happens, it should end up cheaper than buying from the UK. Sometimes the customs guys open stuff to check it, as is their right. They can then asses the value themselves, ignoring the declared value. If they over-value, you have the right to challenge their valuation.
Out of interest, did you order any batteries with it? I wonder if the customs agents pay more attention to heavier/bigger packages? I didn't have to pay charges, but I just ordered the basic Provari plus the end cap.

If it's at your local sorting office, just take the tracking number and some ID and you can pay the charges and collect it.
Otherwise, they will send you a charge notice, you ring up and pay it and they deliver the next day.

Try putting your tracking number into the Parcelforce site, it may tell you which sorting office has it. www2.parcelforce.com/

O dear Blakey. Can you find the phone number for the sorting office that has it? I think you can pay by card over the phone and then have it delivered.

Customs Clearance, August 12, 2011, 11:26 pm, GREAT BRITAIN
Well, that's where mine is..
A year ago, a friend of mine in USA sent me a painting she had done of my garden. She had to put a "value" on it before sending so she put $50.
I had no idea what she was sending and just got a notification that it was waiting for me at a special Custom and Excise parcel place in the middle of nowhere.
I finally found the place, handed over the little card, paid £36 (!!!!!) and then received the box.
They hadn't opened the parcel, which was quite large, but had just based their charges on the value that my friend had declared.
As it happens, the painting is priceless to me.....
I'm not sure that any tube built to contain a battery is worth more than $20 to the majority of the population.
I certainly don't want to have to go find that last place again. Even Mungo found boredom that day.
I don't mind too much if I have to pay VAT but I certainly don't want to drive 40 miles for the privilege of doing so...
Having said that, when I placed my order, I was told there was a 2 week wait and yet it was posted the very next day!
