BSOD

Post by lynwlt on Sept 24, 2013 14:05:18 GMT
It momentarily flashed before my eyes a couple of days ago and then disappeared.
I do however keep getting suggestions that my system is running very slowly, and my mouse is not cooperating.
I've run CCleaner but am not sure that it's done anything much. It keeps advising me to pay for the upgrade.
I need advice in words of one syllable really, always assuming I am not beyond help.......

CCleaner is a freebie! unless you clicked on professional freebie on left column use piriform.com link www.piriform.com/ccleaner/downloadas for flashed before your eyes hmmmm BSOD is BlueScreenOfDeath, usually locks up displays error code, mostly there graph drivers corrupt or system drivers corrupt, worst case with regular bsod's is A: Windows failing B: HD failing this sounds more like a virus

start it in safe mode with networking, on startup keep pressing f8, then update your anti virus and do full scans, then do c cleaner, if no better download differant anti virus programmes and repeat, what av are you using btw? I use super anti spyeware and microsoft security essentials.

ok avast is a resource hog, you can try this one but first tada turn off avast and disable malewarebytes these 2 clash, you can disable startup with ccleaner-tools -startup scheduled task tabs,do not disable anything in there that is for system use ie motherboard -Audio or most in windows tab, rest you can ie like adobe etc ,these are all started when you power up pc,there not needed as you can use them when and if required spybot defender: also detects trojans spybot-search-destroy.en.softonic.com/

My younger brother got the BSOD problem once, trouble is he was piloting a Boeing 777 at the Time, he never did get it to run right after that!

could also be a sign of failing ram.
In my experience, the best thing any windows user can do when their system starts running slow is back up all important data (pics, music, documents) to an external hdd or usb stick and perform a fresh install of windows (while completely reformatting the HDD). Actually it's not just limited to windows these days. I did the same to my mac and suddenly it was much better than before by miles.
Once re installed and updated, add some anti virus programme (i don't know what is best now as i don't use them) then scan your backup data and place it back on your computer. You'll need to get your old software back on it too - I bet you find you actually use less than you thought and had on your machine previously.
No cleaner/uninstaller/scanner will completely get rid of all traces of old software you had installed and it all mounts up. Plus you are installing new software to try to fix a clogged up OS that is adding itself to the problem.
