Silica wick bedding in......

I dread having to re coil my tanks, not because they are a PITA but because the silica takes a fair amount of time before it really gives the flavour of the juice again. Has anyone got any tips on how to get the full flavour of the juice straight away? I used a micro coil and cotton wool today and that gave great flavour pretty much from the start.

1) Always wash your hands thoroughly before handling silica - it wicks the oils and gunge off your hands
2) Flame the wick before wrapping the coil to get rid of any impurities
3) Let it soak up the juice for a few minutes before vaping

I blowtorch my silica until it glows white, and run my kanthal through a flame before coiling too - seems to work perfectly straight off the bat.

I do the same as above and my juice defiantly tastes better after 24hrs of vaping a new wick, I just wondered if anyone else experienced it?

I find silica usually does taste a bit funky at first. Personally I don't bother with boiling it or flaming it I just give it a vigorous dry burn which seems to get rid of most of the break in period. I think it also depends on what silica you use - the better quality stuff is, well, better

I have been wondering if that is the case dave I am still using the stuff I got from vape mesh company. I have some from stealth vape that I am hoping is better.

I've not tried either of those but I would think they would both be decent quality. You may just be super sensitive to silica, some people are and stick to mesh wicks as a result.

All my silica rebuilds have used Stealth vape and I don't notice too much funky taste, but then my taste buds are shot I think.
Have some from mesh company and will see how that works when I try a non cotton wool head as I am loving these at the mo

Im going to strip out one of the coils I put in today and see if it is silica. The taste is not bad its just lacking for a little while. The only way I can describe it is, if you washed your wick out and then put it straight back in your tank wet you get a very muted flavour.

The silica from these two is different though. The vape mesh one is very crunchy where as the stealth vape one seems a lot softer.

I may get some of that bastos wick and try that

Hopefully it will all come together soon and I will learn the error of my ways The learning curve has been like climbing Everest lol.
