I have been toying with the idea of wrapping the double navy nest in SS mesh. Now first off before I waste my time and numerous amount of supplies trying, what are the benefits of silica wrapped in SS mesh? Would it give a better flavour? Would it clog up the coil less? This is mainly in anticipation of sticking some coil clogging HoL juice into my 3.1 So I would love to hear any opinions on silica wrapped in SS mesh

I am no coiling God but clogging varies from juice to juice, temperature you vape at and cannot be generalised.
Benefit of silica inside SS would be the wick would be wet at all times. So more juice burn = more clogging.
Best thing to do is suck it and see if it suits your taste..Can't be that much of a waste.

Otherwise why do people prefer SS? The wick is always wet now in my kayfuns and in fact should always be wet in any atty or you would have wicking issues. I guess it would be a case of give it a try and see, but I would have thought someone would have tried SS over silica on this forum already. Ill strip down one of my KFL's tomorrow and see how it goes.

Many Vapers perceive that SS gives out a cleaner taste. It is also easier to clean and lasts a very long time. Those that are worried about silica fibres also use SS.
I use both SS, SS with silica core and plain silica wicks. I find tobacco juices taste better wiith SS and fruity and sweet flavours taste better with silica, but that is just me. If my SS wick is struggling to wick to keep up with my vaping, I use a combo wick to aid wicking.
I have found that the structure of the coil is more important and no one structure is correct. It all depends on the individual as tastes vary, so there is no correct answer.

I am going to try this in a Kayfun, I am trying to reduce caramelised taste that comes with my juice after a few days of use. I know it is easy to dry burn and clean out, but it takes a bit of time for it to produce the same flavour again.

I don't see how it's going to help but I can see it's going to be a pita to get working well. I just put In a fresh coil whenever I feel the taste is affected.

I know mate, but let me explain, for me this juice takes a while to taste good. Which means one thing, is taste better when the coil is a little gunked up (6 - 24 hrs after a new coil) But if it gets to gunked then it tasted pretty bad, so I have maybe two to three days of vaping bliss then I am back into the vicious cycle again I have stripped out the wick in my 3.1 and have thrown this contraption together lol (easier than I thought it would be) I burnt the juice into the mesh and it is vaping good, the flavour is not there yet but better than when I just use silica, Ill see how it goes for an hour or so and see if the flavour starts to come along in it

have rolled and inserted silca inside ss wick vapes well I rolled mine around the silica, only a thin piece but so far it seems good. Im going to vape it tonight and see how it goes but the flavour seemed to be coming along very quickly. I had to go out today so I took a dripper as I didn't want to risk trying a new set up.

So I am about 4 hours into vaping on this and it is tasting good.
Now I am not sure if that is because of the SS or because I have it at 2.2 ohms which seems to suit my mech's better. I feel it has been less hassle to bring the flavour on...
Is it a waste of time? I don't know, ill keep using it till it starts to taste bad then ill dry burn it, that will be the real test. If all the flavour falls off (I think it will) then its a waste of time.
Time will tell.

Two point i would like to throw in here.
1. a don't like using Silica, if you put it in an ultrasonic cleaner for a few seconds the water is thick with tiny particles that have broken off the wick, i don't fancy inhaling them!
2. I Use Genesis type atties My favourite is the RSST, I wick them using S/S wire with a small section of #400 mesh round the top, I use .5 kanthal ribbon and after a year and a bit of trying different setups , this is by far the best for both flavour and vapour production

I'd forget the navy nest completely, and coil it with a microcoil and cotton wool ginge, easier to strip back dry burn and thread a new piece of cotton.

Im trying to get it to last longer with one of my juices mate, Dry burning or re coiling is not the issue nut it does put me back to the beginning of the cycle. Its getting it to its sweet spot then keeping it there as long as possible is what im after mate
