Hi Guys, I had my annual flu jab on Monday (COPD sufferer so I get one each year) and as usual I now feel lousy. My sister in law also gets one each year as she has heart problems but it never effects her. I mentioned the fact that I always feel dreadful after the jab to my doctor and he explained that the jab is actually a mild form of the flu virus so that the body can overcome it easily and hence build up it's own defences against a full blown flu infection at a later date. He also said that feeling that you have the flu is quite common after the jab and that some people suffer more than others. Do any of you guys have an annual flu jab and if so how does it affect you?

My mum has one, she's 70 and diabetic and she feels pretty rough for a couple of days afterward.
I'm enquiring whether I should start having them, I'm incredibly prone to infections because of my ME and normal colds pretty much cripple me for a week or more, don't fancy flu but not sure if ME is considered eligible.

I have it as I'm diabetic and also have COPD. I used to feel lousy after having it, but the last 2yrs I have been fine. I am wondering if they have done something to it, or, maybe my body has adjusted to it.

The flu virus is constantly mutating. The vaccine is updated each year to try and be as close as possible to the current mutation. So some years it affects some people differently. Mrs OneDay felt lousy this year but she hasn't the last few years.

I get one through work, and have never had any side effects. Both kids are getting it this year too, so fingers crossed they're ok too

You should ask your doctor for the flu jab Sassy .... if you are at all prone to infections the flu could have a serious impact on you and is best avoided if possible.

I have mild COPD so get my flu jab annually, I have also had the ' one off ' pneumonia jab some years ago, the flu jabs always results in a large bruise and very tender swelling for a few days afterwards but ,no flu symptoms.

I have T1 diabetes (the auto-immune kind) so I'm supposed to have the jab, but I also find it has me in bed with flu symptoms for a couple of days afterwards, also the three times I've had severe flu (twice landing me in hospital) were years I had had the jab.
My doctor does try to talk me into it, but he can understand why I don't trust it.
I find taking echinacea, Vit C and Vit D seems to help, as does hand washing/sanitising and covering my nose & mouth with a snood on the tube.
