The juice i thought missing in post turned up today with a 13 pound custom/mail charge after opening the parcel and showing them the 19.01usd bill (£12.00) and explaining under 15 pound shouldnt have any charges she just said take it up with customs as i have already contacted the vendor and he kindly agreed to send me out a free replacement i just paid the 13 quid as i will now have paid twice and will have 2x 50mls :-) upon closer inspection the vendors shipping label say value 40 usd on it...no wonder customs stung me...why would the vendor put 40 usd for something that only costs 19usd ,,and they must know it will get a charge at that value dumplings

Seems a bit daft Kev . . . maybe they have to state a minimum value on the parcel for them to be insured against it's loss. ???

I hope the vendor hasn't put $40 on the 'free' replacement otherwise you'll have to pay another £13 when that arrives!

That's bad luck, have you contacted the company and pointed it out to them about the $40 on the label? Out of interest what company was it?

hmm thought import duties only kicked in on value above £135 ,also should have asked him to mark it gift: Minimum thresholds Duty is not charged if either the total value of the goods (excluding shipping charges and insurance) does not exceed £135 or the amount of duty payable on any given item, does not exceed £9. Neither duty nor VAT is payable if the total value of the goods (excluding shipping charges and insurance) does not exceed £15. www.dutycalculator.com/help_center/Import-duty-taxes-when-importing-into-the-United-Kingdom/

To qualify as a gift:
It must have been sent from a private person outside the EU to a private person(s) in the UK. The Customs Declaration must be completed correctly – see guidance on the customs procedures for goods posted to the UK link below. It must be for the use of either you or your family. There must be no commercial or trade element and it must not have been paid for by the recipient either directly or indirectly. It must be of an occasional nature only - for example for a birthday or anniversary.

Customs and RM are robbing B/stards with this import malarky I ordered a tank for my billet box - cost $25 which is £15 I got slapped with an £11.94 import charge which is almost the cost of the original item and when you consider that shipping was $23.95 my fifteen pound tank cost me £42 I'll not be ordering from the US again on any amount that incurs import duty, it's just not worth the cost!

I received an MVP from Fasttech this week and it was marked as 'gift' on the delivery label so no charges were due.

Parcels from the US appear to attract more Customs scrutiny than from the likes of China . . . like Blakey I've given up ordering from there because of the extra costs involved if it's over the $19 threshold.
