Why? is simple.
People who don't so something so silly as smoking like to sit on their high and mighty chairs and preach to everyone else.
Remember the article about the reporter who when she was a smoker "dreamed of a cigarette that wasn't dangerous". Then, when it arrived, but she'd given up smoking, used (abused) her position as a journalist to demean e-cigs user and threaten us that puffing on one would turn our lips into something resembling a dog's anus. This is what people do. Dress it up as arrogance or holier-than-thou pure selfish thought, it must be in human nature. I say live and let live.
