Truly shocking chrisjw ... I very rarely go out at night any more unless it is to a gathering in a friend's house ... it is frightening how taking a life comes so easy to these scum.

I just replied in the meet thread. Truly awful, and it seems the killers were in there. I hope they catch them soon! I have to admit when we sat outside one night. Several times we had tramps and beggars bothering us which made me feel a little unsafe being a woman. I got the feeling it was a bit of a rough area.

MP Oh no! Sorry to hear that Mart. I know how you feel though. A few years back a lorry dropped a tin of blue paint on our car as it drove past. Splattered all over it. Had to be an insurance job. I don't think Borough High St. Is an affluent area though. I remember pulling up outside the pub to park in the disabled bay and I told Wilf and Jon in the car I wasn't getting out as some extremely drunk tramp was staggering about looking like he was going to fall on my car. (There would have been a killing that night if he had!!)

I haven't been out on a night time since I retired. The scum have taken over and with less and less police it won't get any better. It is a countrywide problem. Very sad.

My little dog needs his last walk of the day at around 7/7.30pm he has a clock in his head! I stick to the main road with lots of grass verges for him sniff out but, I am vary aware of my surroundings, I cross over the road if I see a lone man with a hoodie approaching us. I know it is not fair on the majority of lone man with hoodies, assuming they are going to attack me, but the fear has been put there by news reposts. Back in the day, we used to have policemen 'on the beat' you were never far away from police help if you needed it, many is the time I have asked a policeman if I could walk with him to ensure I got home safely even if there were loads of people about. It had been drilled into me by my Dad, never walk alone at night!

From the other side of the coin.... After my last LSE meet I finally got off the train at leafy Folkestone at 1.00 in the morning. Only a handful of people got off, and only two were walking in my direction - myself and a young woman. She was in front of me and I could sense her unease at having me behind her. I slowed my pace and crossed the road in an attempt to make it obvious that I wasn't 'following' her but I could feel her fear for the few hundred yards we had to share the same route

Very sad to hear After the last meet me and the good lady got off the tube at East India and as we walked thru the bridge a young African lad come belting towards us with nothing but a pair of shorts on at 1am I remember thinking ere we go fisticuffs time :-( But he kept on to the end turned around came back down the steps turned again up the steps 4 or 5 times repeated What a strange malarkey ,,, like he was in training for the Olympics loll or just plain off his head

I find all over the world that areas around mainline train stations tend to be scummy, no matter how much the local council try to clean them up. Bloody shame for the guy killed family On the bright side all the paint came off the car and i've never seen it so clean since i bought it lol. MP

So, so sad... it's not just London. I'm also very wary of going out at night, especially on foot. The local precinct usually has a gang of youths hanging around, swearing away because they seem to think that makes them big. In my days, you could possibly have a fight, but now they seem to think it's a computer game, and they can flash a blade, fire a gun... but then just restart the game. Sick, sick minds.
