Didn't even get as far as coiling it. Stupid thing is, I read about this problem last night, somewhere else & was aware of it, but still managed to break it........so:
WARNING:............Do not attempt to overtighten the 510 connector screw on the base, as it will shear off, as mine has done.........2 months in the waiting & I never got to use it...........

Ouch! I feel your pain chrisjw. My FT KF arrived an hour ago and I will be very very careful. Apparently, the centre post is made of brass (although I stand to be corrected), which weakens it, so be careful........If I could source a new centre post, I'd be back in business...... *NOTE:.......If the positive post where the coil wraps around is loose, or needs adjusting, make sure you unscrew & remove the 510 connector screw in the base first, otherwise it will shear off.

Sorry for the c**p photo, but I can't be bothered to do a better one...stressed out......The second bit down from the top is threaded & should be attached to the post beneath it & is what has sheared off.....the upper most piece is the bit it all screws into & where the coil wire is screwed into....the bottom piece is the 510 connector screw......hope it makes sense......

That could probably be fixed by drilling the top out and Fitting a stainless steel threaded stud. I would offer to have a go but time is against me for the next few weeks/months.

That's kind of you markm...................I've raised a ticket with FT, asking if they'd send me a new centre post, but I don't hold out much hope.

chrisjw .... Just to get this straight in my mind in case mine has the same loose positive pole .... if I unscrew and remove the 510 pin and then unscrew the collector tank from the bottom of the base I will have access to the underside of the base and there is a means of tightening the positive pole from there?

Yeah...............If you can imagine it, the centre post is threaded at the top & screws into the positive post (the air hole that you see in the top) where you coil your wire around... The 510 adjuster connector on the base, screws into the centre post from the bottom......What will happen, is if you attempt to tighten or adjust the top where the coil wire goes, by tightening the 510 screw, it will shear the top of the centre post off, as it will tighten into the centre post & turn everything. I hope that's clear enough, 'cos I've just re-read it & confused myself (although, in all honesty, that's not difficult).........

If you remove the 510 screw before tightening anything else, you'll be fine. Remove the screw & bottom section of the atty & you can loosen or tighten the centre post by hand.
