Have had a Riva 1100 a week the next step ?

Hi all,

So I have my Riva 1100 a week now and am looking to sort a few things out and start doing things better.

I would like to try some new carts as the ones that came with it don't last long at all now before tasting rank. I brought some black ones that have the vapouriser in side, they were on special offer for 5.99 for 5. today they came and i filled one up it didnt kick very hard at all even after priming it, it took loads of my juice too. anyway later i tried to use it again and it just tasted metal, like there was no juice in it all. I would like some more white ones as a back up. anyone know where I can get these?

The white carts I have left over (I have used them all at some point or another) are dead in a few puffs now and I have to keep topping them up even though they are not really empty they are not just kicking out as hard or it tastes wrong.

I would also like to try a dual coil one, which one can i use and where is the best place to get them? Any advice on filling these things up so I don't lose all the juice?

A drip tip? I would like to try these too, which one and where? do I need anything else when i use a drip tip? can the white carts be used for this on my riva? Or have i completely misunderstood what drip vaping is?

Basically I would like the best way to refill the carts that last the longest both in how long it takes to use one up and how long they take to reach the end of their natural vaping life. I also kinda need them for the weekend and as cheap as poss without skimping on the quality

So any ideas to pimp me up?

Right, lets try and sort you out.

Firstly, the cartridges that came supplied with your Riva are just standard 510 cartridges, they hold around 6-8 drops of e-liquid and will deteriorate as you use them. Some people wash the foam filling out now and again and some people replace it with the 'Fluval' fish filter foam that you can buy from pet shops. If you don't want to do either, you can buy them from me either empty for filling yourself

I would probably not bother with either and would stick with the Boge Cartomisers, which hold 3x as much as the standard cartridges - provided they are filled correctly. Watch the video for filling them on the Boge page of my site, here

I see you have added a Griz Whiz to your order - this can also be used to fill the Boge cartomisers as well as emptying them. To do this:

1. Place one of the plastic rubber 'condoms' over the battery end of the Boge Cartomiser leaving a gap to catch juice in it (don't push it up tight to the threads).
2. Take out the soft white cap of the Boge and drip 5-6 drops of e-liquid around the edge into the foam (not down the centre tube).
3. Drop the Boge into the Whiz, condom end first and spin the Whiz slowly about 10 times - this pushes the juice down to the battery end.
4. Repeat the above 4-5 times until the first couple of drops appear in the condom and you then have a fully filled cartomiser. It takes about 2 minutes in total.
5. To empty a cartomiser with the Whiz, you just spin it faster.

The Echomiser tips that you have ordered are no good for Boge Cartomisers - so I will replace them with a 510 drip tip, which slots in the cartomiser instead of the white soft cap that you pulled out previously.

As the flavour/vapour diminishes, just pull off the drip tip and drip 6-8 drops of e-liquid into the wadding, replace the drip tip and carry on vaping (this is called topping off or topping up).

The main thing with any cartomiser is to make sure that they are fully filled before first use and allowed to soak for a couple of hours if possible.

You asked about the dual coils and yes they will fit the Riva battery, but caution is advised because they are very low resistance and can damage some batteries or at least reduce their lifespan. They are filled by simple removing the white soft cap and dripping into the wadding allowing each 6-8 drops to soak in before adding more until they are full.

So with regards to the order you have placed I would:

Replace the Echomiser whistle tips with a standard 510 drip tip
Drop the Dual Coils and replace them with Boge Low Resistance Cartomisers (these are 2ohm and less likely to damage the battery) - they will give increased throat hit if that is what you are looking for

Cost wise it won't make any difference - I will just replace with the same value of each item.

I'd agree with all of Jason's great advice Pete . . . dripping still remains my favourite method of vaping, although it's not always quite so convienent to do that. . . but I do find I get the best 'hit' with a Low Resistance atomiser that way.

I think you'll find the Boge Carto's you're buying will also improve your vaping experience considerably . . . and then if you're anything like many of us, you'll be looking for your first 'mod' on which you can experiment with the likes of Dual Coils and maybe an Arry Tank.

Thanks for getting back to me. Both here and on the email. The reason I wanted to try different carts was because, like i say the white ones have stopped being as good as they were. And then I ordered some of the 5.99 special offer 510D atomized cartridges which i have filled the same as the guy in the viedo- the condom method but the TH is rubbish compared to the white carts and the flavor of the hit even seems to go after 6-7 good pulls anyway. Are these the ones you have sent again? I will try the ones i have here again with the swingy round thingy and try to watch another video. Although if you are sending me different ones it doesnt really matter.

I think I might try a dual coil but on a set up i'll make out of bits from all over.

I will order some white carts just to have around the house and for back ups.

just a question why are things labeled 510 when they fit my 1100. Would it be helpfull for a list of all kits that things work with ?

Pe7e - 510 is the thread fitting - ie a 510 atomiser or cartomiser fits any type of 510 battery.

Hi Pete

Yes, I am sending you the Low Resistance version of the cartomiser.

The throat hit will be a lot more than the standard cartomisers, but the fact is, if you were only getting a few draws before they lost flavour - they were not fully filled.

This can happen if the liquid you are using is too thick, so you could try a thinner liquid.

But, the Whiz should help a lot with any liquid because it forces the liquid through the cartomiser rather than just letting it soak it's way through.

Take your time with the first fill because it is the most important part and let us know how you get on. I can always prefill one for you and send it with your next order to give you an idea of how long it should last before it needs topping up.

Chrissie has explained the 510 bit, but to elaborate, 1100 is the power of the battery (mah) and 510 is the fitting (thread) on the battery.

The other main fitting is the 901 which you may have seen mentioned on the forum. They are not compatible, but can be used via an adapter.

If you stick with 510 cartridges, cartomisers, atomisers they will always fit your 510 batteries.

Thanks for sending the low ones. I have filled them using the Wizz, it works well! from the little ive learnt in the last 24 hours is that its best to filling them and then leave them for a good while before pulling on them.

One thing i have noted that i need is some kind of marker or label to tell which flavor i've put in the cart as i forget almost as soon as i've filled it. I got over excited with all the new flavors I got from the order and just went wild and filled most of them up. The artic lemon is absolutely fantastic.

I think the white carts I have are blocked somehow after the first cm. That's prob my fault though.

I've got a dual cart on the way which i'm looking forward to trying. I have some strawberry menthol liqud on the way too. I think I am going to try and mix a batch of my own up. I fancy, Cherry, Apple, artic lemon and a hint of menthol. How do others go about mixing theirs up?

I love the tip I've got now, that is really good.

And the tank carts, what are they about and where can i get one to try?

Tank carts are another kettle of fish. They go in their own dedicated 'tank atomiser'.

They are handy for carrying more liquid (up to 2ml with the Type B model), but they do strip the flavour noticably and are a lot more expensive in the long run.

However, everyone has their own favourites

OK, I think i have just about mastered these ones now.

Although i nearly hurled with the walnut pipe one lol. I dont know what i was thinking with that one!

Apple, Cherry, Artic lemon mixed it heavenly though.

I've only gone and lost one of my vapers already. Good job i brought a new battery. Still gutted i lost one already, I like to have two and got the extra for my mrs.
