Hi i have a mini protank v2 and Ive been making my own coils using 2mm Eckwool but i don't seem to get anywhere near the amount of vapour as what i did from the manufactures coils, i was simply wondering if it it is normal or if im doing something wrong? How many times should i wrap the heating wire around the Eckwool i thought maybe this may be a part of the problem? They also seem to gunk up alot quicker and not last as long.
Thanks for any help guys

I've done my own coils for a couple of years now, I find some are better than others. It might be an idea for you to try different amounts of wraps until you find what suits you. I know you're quite limited with the Protanks spacewise, I found that it's better to make my coil then once I've got it in place I push it down slightly in the centre this way it stops any shorting that may occur if the wire touches the metal on the fitting I tend to make mine around 4 wraps and normally get really good vapour.

Rebuilt coils are meant to be better than the originals, actually. You haven't mentioned what gauge wire you're using, how many wraps, or the resistance of the coils you're building. Also, stock heads use silica, not Ekowool.

Okay thanks yes that's about the amount of wraps i make about 4, do you use Eckwool or Silica ? Ive only tried Eckwool but haven't tried Silica i didn't know how much effect using one or the other would make? I find some work fine and then other take more to draw the vapor. Very odd.
Thanks for the reply by the way

Normal coils can behave differently each time. Microcoils on the other hand due to the wire touching all the time come out fairly consistently. The vape from them is far better than the vape from a normal wrapped coil (with spaces) due to more surface area of the wick being covered by the heated coil. Thus producing more vapour due to more liquid being heated. The only diference with microcoils is the ability to thread the wick, where most people choose to use cooton wool as the wick of choice as it is easier to thread after the coil has been made. There is a great tutorial from Super-Shiny here for making microcoils -> allaboute-cigarettes.proboards.com/thread/32391/microcoil-cotton-guide

Okay. The 2mm designation for Ekowool is the *internal* diameter of the woven tube, whereas 2mm silica refers to the thickness of the twisted cord. So 2mm Ekowool is actually quite a bit thicker than 2mm silica. This isn't something you would know until you have examples of both in front of you. I think the Ekowool is probably a bit too fat for a Protank head, which would explain the tighter draw. I'd suggest you try silica - either 2mm or 1mm doubled.

Okay i will give that a shoot as i luckily have some 1mm silica that i purchased just in case, the Eckwool is rather thick and i was surprised when i saw it for the first time, you must forgive me I'm still very new to the vaping scene.

When you first start making coils you have a tendancy to wrap them to tight which causes dry hits, less flavour and less vapour. Sent from my Galaxy Note 2

Hi, it worked great for the first few vape's but then seemed to get less vapor like its getting clogged up after i leave it for a while? I don't get what I'm doing wrong. Can anyone suggest a quality vendor for VG & PG nicotine base at 24 mg and a quality source for wick and wire? That's the only thing i could think it could be.

Sounds like you could have wrapped it to tight and it is strangling the wick therefore not keeping up with your vaping. Try re wicking again but dont wrap the wire so tight and see how you get on. I get all my wick and wire from here www.vape-atomizer-mesh.com/index.html Sent from my Galaxy Note 2

I think they can be as good, better (marginal) or a total failure. I don't personally believe half the stories of a Protank tasting amazing on the 1st or 2nd attempt. What is coming off/out of the base....something that's done 3 weeks and 30ml?
My current supplies are from the same place as Rosco. Better and more reliable than some of the rubbish I've used.

Seems to be working fine again after cleaning the tank with warm water, did notice a small crack in the tank glass, so i changed it and it seems to be vapeing alot better now. Maybe i should have let the atty coil soak up the juice before vapeing aswell.
