Hi all - I think I can actually get to this one. Been double-booked for the last two, and I've become a tad wobbly on my feet over the past few months, which made doing two events in one day a bit more than I could manage. Looking forward to seeing you all again...

'Fraid I must downgrade myself to a "hopefully" for this one. Got other things I have to do that day, so if I'm there, it will be fairly late in the proceedings.
I'll do my best to get there eventually - if I don't, it would be the first one I missed since I started turning up to these in July 2013...

That was a really good night I really liked the pub and the company was fabulous. Thank you very much to T Juice for sending all those bottles - Suzy 6 is delicious. Thank you to Ash for the samples, I'm really looking forward to trying them. The next meet will be the 20th one - milestone! I've only been to the last few-has anyone been to every single one? Not from the very beginning, but my first meet was in July 2013, and I think I'm the only person who's attended every one since then. philmepowers has been at most of them, and he was involved from the beginning, but I think he's missed a couple... |

Yes, he does. Kept an atty constantly filled with the stuff for over a year now. It isn't an ADV for me, but I'll pick it up for a few toots at some point every day. Since I realised how much of the distinctive flavour is down to the M-Type tobacco concentrate, I've been thinking I could probably make something, if not identical, then at least something pretty similar that I might like just as much. But I'd be interested to see a recipe, and/or make some lofty pronouncement on the verisimilitude of a sample... |

Using lairey's recipe as a starting point, I've done what is probably the roughest mix I've ever made. Didn't have any bourbon concentrate, so substituted with a blend of whisky, amaretto (since almonds were already involved) and sweetener. No point in listing my ingredients and proportions - if any self-respecting mixer could have seen the way I threw this together, they would be appalled. Happily, the result after one day's steeping is really not bad at all. It may not resemble Castle Long very much, but I'm unlikely to find out anytime soon, and the best news is, I'll be able to use up my whisky concentrate after all. Which is nice. If this juice is still going down well with me as far as making a second, more measured batch, I'll report back with whatever it was that I did. Excellent news remnant, glad you got something nice out of it  You going to make the June meet?  most probably. This one clashes with the latest instalment of the only other recurring social engagement I have, but since they're both in town, I expect I can half-attend, so I may be late, but I should be there. |
