Anyone here a watch lover? I have to admit I love watches. Despite being female I wear men's watches because I like the big faces.
Was a bit of a tradition in my mums family to get a watch for either your 16th birthday or your 21st. My mum was given a gold rotary watch for her 21st by her parents and for my 16th she got me a silver storm watch. I'm 34 now and it's never so much as needed a battery change. But it started me on my watch obsession.
I've slimmed down the collection lately and have a case with 40 spaces. I have 5 free. They're not all high end or designer. But I love them. If I won the lottery I dread to think how much I'd spend on watches.
So. As I've said before I lost my mum last year. She left me some cash. Not a lot and its gone in debts and house hold things that needed doing. But I did save £50 to buy myself a Christmas present from her this year. I know it's not technically off her but its ad close as I'll get. Not surprisingly I want to buy a watch lol.
So. Anyone have any suggestions? Budget is £50. I'm not a brand snob. If it looks nice. I like it. Only provisional is bracelet strap not leather etc.
Anyone got a watch they love? A favourite watch? One they recommend?
Would love to hear about it.

I only recently decided I wanted a half decent watch. Looked for ages, and while I had always wanted a Tag Heur, I didn't want to pay Tag prices, lol. I'll get one someday, but for now I settled with this: Not exactly a budget watch, but not "too" expensive, depending on your definition of an expensive watch. I LOVE it to bits, and wear it most day, just not when I'm working. One of these days I'll have one of these though... stupiddope.com/2011/11/22/vangarde-tempo-theorie-watch/Not sure if I could keep to a £50 budget, lol. I REALLY like this one, but it's £60... www.hsamuel.co.uk/webstore/d/1394177/sekonda+men%27s+stainless+steel+two+tone+bracelet+watch/

I have around 18-20 watches that i have accumulated through the years.
I don't have any really expensive watches like Tag's or Rolex's, mine are all sub £450-500. With the dearest one's being my Seiko Sportura's and the cheapest from my Casio G-Shock collection.
If i won the Lotto i wouldn't buy a Rolex or Omega, i would Splash out on a shiney new Grand Seiko.

Not mega expensive, but I thought it was good value at around £400 I can see why people might like the styles you have linked up, but they aren't really to my taste. Nice enough looking atches though. I'm just not so sure about having corners wrapped around my wrist, lol.

Mine are mostly fashion watches naught as gifts by friends.
I've bought myself a seiko automatic and a Casio edifice. But they're all sub £150. So nothing amazing.
I could stretch the budget if I saved or maybe I'm best waiting for the January sales.
What is it that draws you all to watches?
I like the fact that you're buying something lasting. When you buy a well made watch you know it will still be doing its job in 20 years time.

I have no expensive watches, but I do have a large collection of Swatches, plus quite a few other makes that have taken my fancy over the years or bought as gifts. The one that started my liking of watches, my very first, is identical to this.... www.ebay.com/itm/c-1958-TIMEX-LADIES-CHILDS-SNOOPY-RED-DIAL-MECHANICAL-WATCH-w-SIGNED-BAND-X-F-/331022094046It's rather old now, but it still works. I always stop & look in jewellers windows, but my every day, is a Rotary silver/gold. Shame I can't focus on the date window now though. I can't come up with a suggestion, but I hope you find the perfect one, Jerri.

Last one as I ricocheted through a metal tunnel slide built in a hill with my 6 year old banging it on the sides! Diidnt dare look but not a scratch on it !

I'm not a great possessor of watches, just having got out of the habit of wearing them when several got mashed and bashed at work and found the various timepieces built into other devices were adequate most of the time. However, my taste has always been towards utilitarian, tough, rugged and reliable kit, and to that end I've been looking at ex-MoD service watches. I recall, years ago, the MoD released a batch of Brietling Navigators, which sold for about 30 quid a pop. Kicking myself for not getting one at the time. I'm looking at getting a UK Mod G10 Army or RAF variant, dead simple, reliable and only for telling the time with - no fancy extra dials for anything. Problem is, there are so many fakes on the market (some really good copies too, not fakes as such, just makers' own versions of the CWC one). This is the real thing.. cwcwatch.com/beware.htm and how to tell fakes. If you follow through to the Amazon and ebay official re-seller's sites you'll see how pricey they are new, although the cheapest one isn't too bad at £130. Even so, I'd be more inclined to buy a genuine ex-MoD used one at a fraction of that. Same thing goes with the Russian and Chinese military watches - the originals were very good, but demand from the West has caused back-street fakers to spring up all over the place and there is some right shit around.
