Not so long ago, ecigs were going to be 100% banned in Italy. I remember the story as one particular "on the ball" (NOT) Vaper commented. "Oh, no, that will be the end of Liqua e-liquid".

It's gotta be good that at least one European nation has stood up for common sense and broken ranks. As I see it Italy is actually being honest about vaping. The government needs the dosh - so they're taxing it. They also see the health benefit - so they are allowing public vaping with minimum restriction. Obviously in an ideal world you would prefer no tax on vaping, but that's probably too much to hope for.... ETA: Maybe Silvio has shares in Liqua - Bunga Bunga juice anyone?

Pezz They in Italy will be taxing e-cigs at 58.5%, which is killing off lots of small businesses. They will introduce new rate of tax in 2014. Government has to recoup taxation lost on tobacco sales (which have even higher tax levels). But at least they can vape everywhere in public.

But I prefer tax maybe to like complete ban...
Right now I need my e-cig and so long as it's taxed less than tobacco and alcohol I 'aint worried (cos I'm such a lightweight drinking wise I get tipsy on brewed cola from Newcastle LOL)

Ok, so Italy is allowing people to vape, but taxing above the normal 20% is just not right. The reason for tax being so high on tobacco is because of the health issues, this simply goes away with vaping.
Italy have been honest about there worry of losing revenue, but overtaxing an addiction is no difference to pimping.
