I have a BIG birthday next year and me and the OH are thinking of going to New York for a few days as I've never been before. Still looking at hotel options near Times Square and have not decided which one. The OH likes the 5* ones and they are $$$!! Any way, I was wondering what the vaping scene is like in NY, can you vape in public/bars/restaraunts? Your guidance & advice would be appreciated

Des, New York City has a strong anti smoking/vaping policy. They do not allow smoking/vaping in bars/restaurants or even outdoors in the parks. I doubt if you will even be allowed to vape in your hotel and may be forced to go out on the sidewalk. I suggest you check with the hotel, before you book a room.

Really Jerry, how Draconian. But how would anyone know you've actually been doing a spot of clandestine vaping in your room. ??? Other than maybe a slight aroma depending on the juice, but a non flavoured one would get round that.

That's not strictly true Jerry. There are regular vape meets in NYC at numerous bars/diners.
As for hotels, you dont even need to mention it to them. It's your room, and you are not breaking the non smoking rules, and they will never know anyway.

The anti smoking/tobacco/nicotine movement is strong and vocal in the U.S and they have the backing of the Pharmaceutical companies. They have succeeded in convincing a number of states and cities that vaping is the same as smoking and perhaps even worse.
It's true that the hotel would not notice vapor, since they are looking for smoke and perhaps the hotel that Des books allows vaping, anyway. The police are probably too busy with other things, to be enforcing idiotic laws, such as smoking/vaping outdoors.
Nonetheless, I would suggest that Des be a bit discreet when he vapes, to be on the safe side.

My middle name is discretion I agree that I think unless you are actually seen vaping in your room it'd be pretty hard to tell that you do. My preference is for non-tobacco flavour vapes any way so hopefully all I'll leave is a slight whiff of cherry menthol in my hotel room. OK, so where are you allowed to smoke in NY?, can you not smoke in the street? Are there any smoking areas for analogue smokers?

You can smoke on the sidewalk, in the street and like Deejay said, in some bars and diners. You can't smoke in public buildings or parks.
Like I said, the police are probably too busy with other things, to enforce stupid laws, but I would suggest that you Google the NYC smoking laws, before you go on your trip.

Yeah, New York was the first city to lump e-cigs in with analogs, now there are a couple of places that are thinking of doing the same thing.
