Hi,
So I'm trying to make my first microcoil! Big Question: Are the "turns" on the kanthal (currently going for 10 turns) supposed to touch each other or does it work if they are just very close? I can't seem to make the turns touch, instead they are really close, but never stay together... I hope you understand what I mean... So?? Does it work like this or is it mandatory that they are al together?

Best if they touch, however pop the coil on an atty and get it's ohm reading.
I usually do 7/8 turns of 0.25 and it reads 1.8 ohms
Also, when on the atty heat it til its glowing then as soon as you release the button, squash the coil together with tweezers or pliers and repeat a few times then test ohms reading again.

uhmm.., I don't have a torch, perhaps that's why I can't get the coil hot enough to be able to completely squeeze it... WIll try what you said Carpe Vapor! THanks for the quick replies Oh, and thanks gregb, I've been looking at that guide cheers

As said once coil is built stick it on your mod and just pulse the power to get the coil glowing red, as soon as power is off just nip the coils together with tweezers a few times. When your done if its current then when you dry burn the coil on your mod for the last time the coil should glow red hot in the middle first then quickly heat up red to either side. Let it coil then add your wick.

Aldo I've just been sitting here making a couple of weeks supply of micro coils using the Super-Shiny guide which is excellent, I use a lighter to heat the wire so can't get enough heat when pinching between the tweezers so when I've got the coil on the 2 mm screwdriver blade I pull the legs tight between my fingers and push the coils together using a fingernail, getting really good results that way and I find it easier than pinching with the tweezers, just make sure you have given the wire a good heating before winding, I do 3 passes with the lighter. Once you get a technique that works for you it's easy. Good luck buddy.

Sounds about correct, Aldo. You might want to try a couple of wraps less if you want a lower resistance, although 2.6ohm should work fine. It must be the weather over here, I've just made up a couple of microcoils too, using a 2.5mm jewellers screwdriver shank, and blowtorch. 8 wraps of 2.5 Kanthal gave me just about 2ohm, perfect, when powered the coil glows from middle out, just like Greg mentioned. Pop in a bit of cotton wool wick, and I'm using up the last of my Jack The Ripple in a lovely warm haze!!

Yeah but yours is in the same thread Crossed thread old son ... probably because I took the time to get the link to Super-Shiny 's guide before I posted rather than a quick post and a subsequent edit .. I will see your Tease-smiley and raise you Tease-smiley
