100 dollars compared to a couple of thousand, when the lead gets 10 million, makes perfect sense, not. It does if you are producing thousands of copies. Editing etc is also much simpler, and cheaper.

TBH Most releases have been digital for a while, it's not exactly a new technology. It also means that the footage will still be around over the new few decades ready to remaster to the new technology of the era (i.E 4k etc) unlike a lot of the film masters that get damaged/ lost over the years.
I'm guessing those 8% of analogue cinemas in the states probably didn't show many new films, cinema and movie goers have moved into a new era so theatres need to keep up.
