I've just had another go at direct dripping on the atomiser. Not nice, one half good vape, then burnt nasty taste. Ugh, really not nice. I tried it yesterday with a new flavour and put it down to the new flavour, but this was with a well known one.
I hope it is my taste buds, tastes weird. Maybe this is what life without smoking should be like. lol

Hi Womble, Fellow noob vaper here (just over 7 weeks now). To me it sounds like it's your taste buds adjusting/recovering. I found that I was waking up with what I thought was a sweet taste in my mouth in the mornings, until I sussed it was actually just a lack of stale bitter cig tastes Cheers, John

Also, if you get a burnt taste, make sure you are adding enough liquid to the atomiser.
3 drops at a time is a good rule of thumb.
If the draw is tight then just give the atomiser a blow through onto a tissue to clear it and then have another go.

Tried with the other atomiser, really persevered hard, 3 drops (used 2 last time), really really horrible taste. I'm definitely not trying again! I washed out the one the other day and got rid of the horrible (I thought) cherry flavour and tried it then, got the same results.
Either I'm doing something really wrong, or these atomisers have a horrible taste to them. Have I burnt them somehow?

Do you get the same bad taste when you use a cartomiser?

No, all the cartomisers you sent me have been great. No problem at all. I think even if the atomisers worked, I'd prefer the carto's anyway tbh.

Hmmm does sound odd then.
The only time I've had really bad taste off an atomiser is after using it with coffee or other strong flavoured e-liquids. In which case, even a boiling didn't get rid of it.

I think I've tried them with an arctic lemon, a mystic cherry, british bulldog and the Kentucky Maple.
No great worries, the carto's work fine, I'm just going to throw the rest away and settle down to what works. All this horrible atomiser tasting is starting to put me off a bit.

Oh my goodness, just found Kentucky premium blend juice, out of this world! What an amazing taste, best ever.
I really have no intention of going back to horrible tasting analogues now.

Just an update.
I'm sort of happy with what I have, but I feel the need to get more flavour out of the kit. So atm, Riva 1100 batteries, with Boge LR cartos.
What I'm thinking, is trying a Joye ego 1000mAH battery and some dual coil cartos, together with some smokeymizers for the Riva batteries and see what works for me.
Do you think I am going the right direction? Or should I be looking at it in another way?
When I started with the Realis it seemed OK, then not so good, then the Riva 1100 seemed ok, then not so good.
I'm not sure if I'm just getting used to what I have and seeking more just for the sake of it, or what....
The one thing I do want to do, is to continue with ecigs, so I want it to be working for me. I do not want to go back to analogues.

The dual coils do seem to give more hit and flavour than the Boge Womble, but you would be right in going with the Joye eGo with them to be safe. Not sure if you've tried the Kanger LR Cartomisers, but they also deliver more punch and flavour. The next step is VV, as River mentioned.
