Read this story on BBC news earlier... absolutely shocking! And to top it all "Visitors, including children, were invited to watch while the giraffe was dissected and fed to the lions" There were crowds of people gathered to watch I didn't know that. Absolutely sickening, poor animal.

I'm saddened as well. But - the decision was taken by scientists and zoologists, not some tuppenny animal park or circus. I can only assume that all the giraffes in captivity share some common heritage and that the diversity of the gene pool must be protected for future captive-born animals. This animal may have had some genetic weakness that we don't know about that would have affected it in later life. Having said that, I would have thought that castration would have been an option and feeding the meat to lions in front of visitors (if that bit is true) seems beyond the pale.

I also heard about this on the BBC news & they did say the poor thing was fed to the lions I also can't for the life of me understand why they didn't just castrate it.
