Thanks Greg Yep must have been the leads.. didn't have any paperclips, so I shoved a bit of copper wire in there & when I worked out it needed to be insulated & I couldn't be touching it (took a while haha), then eventually it settled at 0.6?.. think it's a half-bit of speaker wire.. that sounds about right doesn't it? Great, I can just replace the leads nice one! Ok so see if I get the leads sorted.. then what am I actually looking for when I'm testing bits of the mod?? I'm guessing that: 1) I don't want current to be flowing through the outside of the mod, so if there is no beep when I touch the outside & also the centre pin then that's good? 2) I want there to be a good potential difference through the battery, so test probes on either end of battery set on 20V, if about 4V that's good? 3) What other measurements can I take and what sort of values should I be wanting if everything is working ok? Or otherwise, does anyone know of a good site / thread about such things? I'll keep on looking myself, but not found much yet.. I.e. when I was testing resistance before, not sure whether I was looking for a high / low / no value etc... Thanx Nice one sounds like it's just the probes, get them to replace them . 1.) Yes, you shouldn't have continuity between the body/tube etc and the centre pin. You would short the battery out. 2.) Yes, fresh off the charger they should read around 4.2v, I normally feel vapour production getting less at about 3.5v so I switch for a fresh one. Maximum discharge is usually 2.5v. P.S If you ever have access to a soldering iron and want to mod the XL830L so that the LED back light always stays on while the unit is switched on. I posted a quick guide here a while back.. allaboute-cigarettes.proboards.com/thread/21038?page=2

Hey all! Happy post-valentine's day Guess what, all is very good! Don't worry @johanino!! Although very very kind of you to think of me, I've actually had an AMAZING surprise from oldsmokey, he sent us all his unused devices... and Oh My God we've finally got the vaping experience we were hoping for!! (I'm not being posh, I mean me & the boyfriend haha) So I can vape away all day & laugh at my attempts at building a mod, which was the activity a few days ago.. although I'm really happy & glad that I've got some really great tips here for how to play about to find out whether what I'm making is working & how to take care of our new mods, etc.. Soooooo incredibly kind of Old Smokey & of Jane, you've both been really really sweet & much kindness to yas xxx Aye I have been doing the test in no.50, quite a lot lol!! although wasn't quite sure exactly what results I was hoping to get, so thanks Adam & Greg for clearing that up.. I'll def send off for replacement probes, although I've got a couple of bits of copper wire stuck in there just now & they seem to be doing ok I'm sure you'll get millions more annoying questions from me when I'm continuing with my build.. I'll keep yous updated Love the thought about modding the meter, nice one Adam!! I used to play about with modding keyboards & sound-making devices, like circuit bending.. so much fun!! & yep the light would be a good idea.. so I'll get on that, nice one THANKS EVERYONE YOU'RE ALL REALLY REALLY KIND XXX

purkle the test in post 50 tells you the resistance of your coil And that there is nothing shorted or open circuit between your atty and the head of your mod.
