Mechanical Mod is sturdy, and will last more than my lifetime. I wind my own coils, and they do tend do degrade (at least with my E-Juice) Like this :- 1.8 Ohm on day 1, 2.0 Ohm on day 2, 3.4 Ohms day 3 (and are now not usable until I dry burn / clean them) I can kind of get round this for a while with a VV device by upgrading the voltage / watts. Are you guys just meticulous about cleaning your clearo coils every day ? or is it my Juice ? Kinda new to this stuff, but just went to check and my ohms were 0.6 now 0.8 in my rda. Rise is probably more down to me poking coils than anything, and it was a week ago when I did the coils. Are you using cotton wool? I have been and change it every 1-3 days, at the same time I dry burn and recompress the coil with tweezers to keep it tight, maybe that's helped me?

boyofford,
Some Juice, builds up a residue on the coil ( Vanilla Custard in my case)
It's totally obvious if you look at the coil, but can also be measured via an increase in resistance (hence my post).
As you're coils are still reading reasonable Resistance values - this is not your problem.

Snake oil used to wreck my protank coils come to think of it... my eliquid is mostly fruits/menthols types so that explains why I don't really have issues.

hey just though ad ask a question on this thread, can i use my unprotected batteries that i use in my vv/vw mods in a mech mod with a kick? the kick adds a bit of saftey doesnt it? I use Evolv kicks in my mechanical mods and I know that the warranty will be invalidated if you use anything other than the recommended IMR batteries, eg: AW or Efest. Even in a regulated mod like the Vamo or SVD etc, I would recommend using IMR batteries as they are more suitable to vaping with their high current discharge characteristics and safe chemistry construction. I can never understand why someone will pay big money for a decent mod and then skimp on decent batteries.

I have a couple of evolv kick 2's and a couple of cheapo FT kicks in mech mods
I have and do use a mixture of AW IMR and Efest V2 IMR batteries (both 18650 and 18500's)
They all work flawlessly; the FT ones at 12 Wats max and the Evolv Kick 2's at 15 Watts max).
The only problem I find is the Efest batteries are a tad longer than the AW batteries and I need to adjust the mod slightly when using them.
Hope this helps.
I don't agree with those who say it's pointless having a mechmod if you're going to use a kick, I have nothing against the purists, I just prefer the look of some of the mech mods and use a kick to get a constant wattage/vape.
occasionaly on a new battery I will remove the kick for an hour or so to get it hitting like a train though :-)

As Steve (VapeStorm) says, they have no voltage control. The only way of regulating the 'strength' of vape is by adjusting the ohm rating of the coil in your 'tank'. This is why mechanical mods are better for those of us who recoil our own devices; we are (supposedly!) able to make a coil which will give us the optimal vape on a fresh battery. Unlike a VV/VW mod which contains electronics which regulate the battery's output throughout its discharge cycle, a mech mod starts at full charge and the power gradually decreases as the battery discharges. You have to be careful to stop using the device before the battery runs out completely otherwise it could do something nasty, like explode! Some people use something called a 'Kick' which sits on top of the battery inside the mod and regulates the voltage or wattage to give a steady output for the battery life. These generally need to sit on an 18350 or 18500 battery as they obviously take up a bit more room than there is available on top of an 18650, unless the mod is telescopic. There is much more to say, but hopefully this gives you a bit of information to be going on with! Edit in BOLDHow hard is it to fit a kick module onto a mech device ?

It more or less drops in if the mod is the right size. There's a contact on the side of the kick that has to make contact with the side of the mod so if the tube is too wide or too narrow it's no good. you have to make sure the tube can take a kick as well. Not so much of an issue with a telescopic mod but often needs extra tubes for normal tube mods.
