Hmm thinking of buying a touchwood ( because its wood and gorgeous) or a nemesis ( because they are meant to be epic).
But what I don't undestand is how do you change the voltages on these things. I build my own coils so how do these devices regulate the power to ensure its suitable for the coil.
Cheers Mr p.

In essence they dont, its just power straight from battery through coil then back to battery. I think if you want to control voltage you need a kick which sits on top or under the battery. I havent got my mech mods yet but picked up a few bits readimg on forum

I think it is the other way round to some extent. I've only had my Nemesis clone (my first mech mod) for a few weeks and still getting to grips with it but you can't regulate the voltage from the device itself. Basically, it is a battery tube with a + and - connector. When the switch is pressed, this connects the connectors to the battery which completes a circuit delivering power to fire up the coil. How much power (volts/watts) used will be determined by the coil resistance and the power left in the battery. So as the power of the battery drops below 3.6 ohms, the vape becomes increasingly weak. No doubt others can provide a much better explanation

(Edit, sorry I misread the post, I thought you meant a Mod with electronics in it) (Edit2, because of the internal resistance of a Li-Ion cell, you can directly connect a coil of 1.5 Ohm's and up and not exceed 9 Watts. More Ohms on the coil = less power at the coil. So in short - it's the resistance of your coil that determines the power (W) you are vaping)
I think it's just Ohms law ?
W = V2 / R
W = Power (Watts) V = Voltage R = Resistance (Ohms)
(Thats V squared not V2)

Purple, you can buy a kick to fit I your nemesis mod, this converts your mech mod to vw if you so wish, they work great

As Steve (VapeStorm) says, they have no voltage control. The only way of regulating the 'strength' of vape is by adjusting the ohm rating of the coil in your 'tank'. This is why mechanical mods are better for those of us who recoil our own devices; we are (supposedly!) able to make a coil which will give us the optimal vape on a fresh battery. Unlike a VV/VW mod which contains electronics which regulate the battery's output throughout its discharge cycle, a mech mod starts at full charge and the power gradually decreases as the battery discharges. You have to be careful to stop using the device before the battery runs out completely otherwise it could do something nasty, like explode! Some people use something called a 'Kick' which sits on top of the battery inside the mod and regulates the voltage or wattage to give a steady output for the battery life. These generally need to sit on an 18350 or 18500 battery as they obviously take up a bit more room than there is available on top of an 18650, unless the mod is telescopic. There is much more to say, but hopefully this gives you a bit of information to be going on with! Edit in BOLD

Touchwoods are lovely to use and a couple of minis are my main devices.
But although I believe you can modify them (the 18500 and 18650 anyway) to take a kick, it's a mission because the body is wood.
But I can't see the point of getting a nice mech mod, then sticking electronics in it. Just get a VW mod to start with.
Personally, a simple mech and atty, with a coil around 1.5 ohms works perfectly for me.

Cheers gents, upon reading the replies I think I'd be better off buying a vv/vw device.
These mechanical (?) Mods look lovely but probably wouldn't suit my needs .
Thank you Mr p.

I all depends what you like really. If you want something plug and play then a vv vw mod is the way to go. Mechs really aren't any hassle though if you can build your own coils especially. Just make a coil to give the vape you like and I find its fine down to about 3.6 volts then change the battery. The vape isn't much good under that anyway so in my opinion draining batteries too far isn't really very likely. I used to have a kick but it didn't last long and I never bothered getting a new one. Know the safe limits for your battery and don't build too low resistance coils and it will be fine.

Unless you are interested in playing with coils that a regulated device Will refuse to work with, then I'm not sure that a mech mod has anything Much to offer. If you like the mech mod look you can use a kick or other drop In device to turn it into a regulated device, but a purpose built regulated mod will Generally be easier to live with.

hey just though ad ask a question on this thread, can i use my unprotected batteries that i use in my vv/vw mods in a mech mod with a kick? the kick adds a bit of saftey doesnt it?

Mechanical Mod is sturdy, and will last more than my lifetime. I wind my own coils, and they do tend do degrade (at least with my E-Juice)
Like this :-
1.8 Ohm on day 1, 2.0 Ohm on day 2, 3.4 Ohms day 3 (and are now not usable until I dry burn / clean them)
I can kind of get round this for a while with a VV device by upgrading the voltage / watts.
Are you guys just meticulous about cleaning your clearo coils every day ? or is it my Juice ?
