I've spent hours of my life trying to get to grips and understand batteries.. just when I think I've sussed it -- it all goes awol but its probably like vaping, in the beginning it all seemed 'numbers' that made no sense, and now (months on) I 'get it' so am hoping the battery info slowly sinks in ??? O.M.G Ive just noticed they do ORANGE efest batteries?? what are they ??

can you use the red efest in one of your links without a kick and vice versa so could use the black efest with a kick?

The general consensus is that when in doubt, IMR is better for mechanical mods. The reasoning is, although IMR has no protection circuit, by nature of their chemical composition, they are safer than ICR with a protection circuit. Protected ICR batteries have a history of their protection system failing, specially with the cheaper ones.

I was confused and still am with batteries. I got my first mec yesterday so last week I e-mailed Torchy to ask him what I would need, and being a gentleman he gave me a detailed explanation and on his recommendation I bought these

Got to be honest I used to use the red efests in a wee gripper that's mech and I never had any problems. I think with the recent news stories I am more aware now of battery safety (and the note that came with the mod that said use protected batteries or it might explode ) I'm a lot more cautious about batteries now. Having said that, apart from one incident that everyone has heard of, I've not jeard about another mod explosion and considering the 100000s of unprotected mod batteries being used I'm sure it's probably a non issue.

I'm confused. (Doesn't take a lot).
I have the grand count of ZERO protected batteries.
If IMRs are as good as anything, when would a protected battery "get the nod"?

Just be sensible with these mate and you'll be fine. They only have a max ouput of 8.8amps so for regular vaping there fine, but if your intending to build low sub ohms coils you will need something with more output.

They have been tested at 10 amps according to the vendor and I can only go by the information supplied. This is where the confusion comes in for me as you say they have a max output of 8.8 amps. Well they're in a nemesis with a 1.7 ohm coil at the moment and have been since yesterday and I still have my hands and face . . . . . . . . . . . .I think. Haven't had any funny smells, noises or excessive heat build up anywhere so hopefully all will be good. I don't intend going any lower than 1.7ohms at the moment so hopefully all will remain well.

The red efest iMR batteries will be just fine unless you want to get into sub ohm coils efest IMR 18640 2000 mah is 10 amp efest IMR 18490 1100 mah is 8.8amp efest IMR 18350 800 mah is 6.4 amp Even with 1 ohm resistance you are only drawing 4 amps so are safe enough.
