Traveled home on Saturday on the Pride of Hull P&O Zeebrugga Hull ( or is it Ull ) ferrie. Was dismade to be told that Senior management had dictated that e-cigs, due to complaints from smokers. were banned from public areas but were OK to be used in cabins! duh! I will neve use their ferrie service again.

I got thrown out of a bar last year after complaints from smokers, seems if they cannot do it they want to ruin our pleasure, very ignorant attitude.

Complaints from smokers? This is the first I've heard of it What tosspots! I can say tosspot, right? I'm having to become a little more creative with my swearing/insults round here. I don't mind being told not to vape anywhere I haven't bothered to check before vaping, but if complaints from smokers was given to me as a reason I would take my custom elsewhere. Permanently.

What we have to remember is that any property owner can set whatever rules they like within their premises - and that includes bars, ferries, buses, trains, planes, shopping centres or whatever. We have to strike a balance between 'vaping with pride' and being confrontational, obnoxious or anti-social. I can see that smokers could get upset at the thought that we can feed our addiction while they can't. The choice as to whether to subsequently withhold our custom after a vaping ban is, of course, up to the individual.

I got the overnight Portsmouth to Caen ferry with Brittany Ferries on Sunday night. They were happy for me to vape in two bars(had to leave one when the Abba tribute band started) and the restaurant. Even Bluetoothed the manager a link to a myepack starter kit for his wife.

I was in no way "vaping with pride" nor being "confrontational, obnoxious or anti social" it is not in my nature. I was sitting in a quiet corner of the bar with my wife having the odd discrete puff, when approached by one of the barmen he explained the company policy to me in a pleasant and slightly apologetic way, I accepted this from him with no complaint, it’s not his fault that his bosses have decided on this policy, my argument is with them and I have written to them expressing my opinion on their policy regarding e-cigs.

I travel regularly on P&0 ferries, and have never been challenged about vaping, I don't even do it discreetly as I believed it was ok on board. Last time I went (a fortnight ago) I even had another person who was vaping with me, we were passed by a few of the crew. No one batted an eyelid. May be the rules haven't reached every ship yet.

A lot of these decisions on corporate bans are made at a board room level. All it takes is one director to be on the board or have shares in BAT or Johnson&Johnson or a friend with links to them, and they bring in a blanket ban. They are not interested in individuals or logic, money is their god. I still have not had a problem vaping in any (true)greenhouse, where the managers word is final. All we can do is boycott such establishments, and let them know why. They may change their minds, but only if they feel it in their wallets. I feel for management that aren't allowed to make decisions, it must be like being a member a of the European Union.

I think the ruling is newish, on my outbound sailing I noticed a few people using e-cigs including myself with nothing said by the ship’s crew.
