Vaping in the workplace

I liked this post. It was very concise.

In a way I'm lucky with the colleagues I have; I get to sit in the staff room and vape - of course I asked first and answered any questions they had that I could. Which resulted in them feeling comfortable about it.

It's crazy as this method of smoking (vaping) does not fall under the smoking ban. Mind you i wouldn't smoke/vape at work due to the enviroment, clients visiting etc and doesn't bother me to go outside. The pub on the other hand is different and some encourage it by selling disposable e cigs. The pub has almost died since the smoking ban and whilst I love my e cig it was certainly the end to an era. :0)

I do vape at my desk. Mind you we don't get customers coming in and only rarely do we have visitors. At first it was really wierd and freaked me out a bit and if anyone walked into my office while I was vaping I would sit there holding my breath and the vapour until they left.

But I'm far more relaxed about it now - even vaped in a 5 hour meeting I was in the other day. Now it freaks other people out but only the first time they see me do it - apparently their thought process goes something like "OMG. Smoking. No smell. Smoking. Smoke's gone. No Smell. WTF" and then they usually breathe again and laugh.

They all know I use an e-cig as I discussed it with them all before I started using it (after big boss said I could use it at work) so no-one got a major shock first time they saw it and to answer any concerns they might have about it beforehand. Had any of them been reallly concerned/worried about it and weren't happy with me doing it, I would have continued to go outside but they are all fine with it and I get to stay warm and dry inside.

I haven't brought it up with work yet, but if on the rare occasion I actually get a lunch break, I do go outside and sit with the smokers as they are more sociable than sitting in the canteen which is more of the morgue than a canteen. I don't (didn't) smoke that much anyway so its not as though I went from my desk to grab a smoke anyway.

I was vaping with the health and safety manager in the office the other day before anyone else got in though as it was bitterly cold so there wouldn't be an issue anyway.

It was due to my workmate using an e- cig in the office (she was a committed smoker but hasn't touched one for over a month now) that I decided to give it a go!

she's probably getting more work done than the rest of us who are in the habit of sneaking out for fag breaks!

That is so true Karma . . . the time I've gained at home by not constantly stopping inbetween doing chores to 'reward' myself by having a ciggie, is immense.

What quite I've done with the extra time, I'm not so sure about.

What is it with that? According to my sig, I've saved loads of money - no idea where that is and as I'm not leaving my desk for a cig I should be racing through the work but my work to-do tray is piled higher than ever ???

My boss is more than happy to let me vape my head off in the brand new van he just bought me , just doesn't want me to get dents and scratches on it
