Thanks for the article, very useful. I read about this case in the Spanish news the other day, though their report wasn't very specific as to what had really happened, only that it was caused by an e-cig, no details. I was curious to get some more information as you can never be sure with these news reports or even the initial reports of medics. Good to see it debunked.

Now that is interesting, does anyone else remember the tonight program and that guy that got it? He must have bought some cheap nasty stuff from an unknown vendor, probably a corner shop.

I'm sure it said on that programme that there was no evidence to say it was caused by an ecig and that his doctor just believed it to be so.

The MHRA (the UK’s Medicines regulator) also feel that any connection is unlikely:

“As the major constituents of electronic cigarette vapour, propylene glycol and glycerine, are water soluble the potential for these compounds to be involved [in] lipoid pneumonia is not clear at present. The MHRA is not aware of any other cases of lipoid pneumonia associated with propylene glycol or glycerine products.”

Yeh but I already know people who have been brainwashed with this crap, they stopped ecigs and went back to smoking because they're convinced it's safer?!!

So for you and me it's fine but not everyone is as logical

Yep, I know what you mean. My sister has just switched from smoking to vaping and she saw the programme. The only thing she was worried about was that story. She was okay once I explained it to her though.
