Been hearing a lot lately about rayon for re wicking? Every thing I have read people rave over the "better taste " over silica or cotton...does anyone know if its safe?

There is a ton of information, have a read of the rayon thread in the general thread which links to the USA discussion.
I was surprised to this thread pop up, I wrote the original in March, now look at me, reconciling, rebuilding, rba's and rayon wicks lol

On reflection " is it safe " is a bit of a silly question. Truth be told we don't really know if any of what we do is safe do we? I must admit it all sounds better than silica wick ( isn't that fibreglass ?) so I guess we make our choices and take our chances. Whatever though, it all has to be better than the coffin nails we all used at one time....and no matter what tests are done, or what articles are written, nothing will convince me otherwise.

It will wick nicely, is very absorbent, and won't burn. I am surprised though, every post about cotton insists on natural organic, unbleached undyed cotton etc. Rayon is about as far from natural as you can get. Acids and caustic soda's are used in the manufacturing process, admittedly they are washed out in the washing process. I've been making these fibres for the last 24 yrs, currently making another variety, Lyocell, no nasties in this, but it never occurred to me to try it as a wick Might just have to give it a try as i have tonnes of the stuff at my disposal As for the price, the raw material when it leaves the Viscose factory that this Rayon comes from is about £1.30/kilo, then it has to be spun into the yarn but the prices on ebay are still quite steep.
