Hey everyone a real newbie diy'er question. What is considered to be the best wick available for flavour? I am just getting into rewicking (not recoiling) my stock protank heads for my mini protank and an winding what the pros use!

Thanks, that is what I have done my first one with and it is working well! You've done well if you've managed to rewick a standard protank head coil with cotton wool

They won't last anywhere near as long but it looks like you've got the hang of recoiling it ... The extra work involved with CW is worth the effort

Only thing I'm finding with cotton wool is gurgling on the protank type heads, I might try and see if I can get some silica in them.

When you put the cotton in the protank head fluff it up a bit so it fills the gap it's sitting in either side, sounds like you may be getting juice bypassing the wick rather than going through it. I rarely got gurgling on a pt with CW, not that I use Them anymore but good to have backups

I add the extra bit on top of the coil

But, problem is still there, just not as bad, looks like I've got some vids to look at and see if it's my coil or the wick

Thanks gregb, only thing is I am reading that they don't last add long as silica we shall see lol The wick doesn't, but the coil lasts longer - it is easy to pull out the old wick, rinse & dry burn, and insert more cotton wool.

So the wick won't last as long as silica but will have better performance, how long does the average coil last or is it dependant on wick, I must admit I vape at low voltage and change my heart based on latest recommendations so have never reached the end of a coil? Do microcoils last longer? Tia

I think my ordinary coils with silica lasted about a week, but I have a friend who washes them every night and I think hers last about 6 months. It wasn't the coil that died on me, it was the wick, and the way I did them I could't change the wick without destroying the coil. My cotton wool wicks last probably about 4 or 5 days, and the coils I put them in maybe 5 or 6 weeks. I also do a mesh with a little cotton wool around it on an aga-t, but that doesn't seem to last as long, I don't know why. I think life depends on how often you wash it, the juice, and especially on how often you burn it by mistake. I don't think microcoils last longer, but I pretty much went from silica in an ordinary coil to cotton wool in a microcoil, so I'm not sure. I have occasionally put cotton wool in a shop-bought ordinary coil if I was feeling lazy and the silica came out easily, but it isn't as good. I have yet to do a dual microcoil in the evod 2. I like the standard coil+wick that comes with them well enough to keep washing them rather than doing a new cotton wool + microcoil (and I suspect that the dual coil will be a bit of a PITA to do - it certainly was on my Novas), so I'll see how long they last.
