I spose I should add...me hearties!! Anyway, my free Avast is up for re registering, which I will be doing, but they have an offer on at the moment $19.99 instead of $49.99 to upgrade to Internet Security. Probably a no brainer, but is it worth it?

No....my opinion ....a better choice is COMODO antivirus free version.Even if you will find on top 5 avira and avast in my opinion is only advertising .Advice : every 6 months change your antivirus....again and again.... I'm a linux user Tease-smiley

I've used Avast for quite a while. Also had those offers. My view is if your current one works ok 'why fix it' Buy some nice ready made juice for that!

Thanks for your replies, guys. @chris2005, I am happy with what I have, as I've never had any problems. (touches wood!) So, although & you'll think I'm mad, but I'll have a read about Comodo, but more than likely stay with Avast. Plus, I understand it. chrisjw .... cheeky! but & at @zero too, you both share my thoughts.

Some time ago I asked a similar question. The advice I got from several members, including one who installs this stuff for a living, was NEVER pay for anti-virus software. I was also told that Microsoft Security essentials and Malwarebytes was all I'd ever need. I have installed both and never had any problems (despite much 'dodgy' trawling )

I'm happy if you are happy ....the reason i was recommended comodo and not avast is : 1.last few years avast was more like testing antivirus (always some problems or incompatibility etc)... 2.Amount of resources.(avast need far more ram memory than comodo). 3.Comodo from far have one of the best firewall ( and also for free) . 4.Comodo clean also malware.....i can write here another 10 reasons but this is not my blog. ....i'm also BackTrack user (security linux distro) ,i can say power user but is not the case now to speak about my self. Windows have always security problems i think is nothing new also he is under continue attack ,nothing new..... the rest is UP TO YOU. hope this help

Hi jessHave you considered using Microsoft Security Essentials? When I built a new PC and bought a new laptop, I decided to rid myself of all 3rd party software. (free or paid). It works, it stands up for comparison (well, it did last time I looked)... it's FREE.

Yeah save your money it's not worth it. The free stuff that people have recommended on here is more than enough. Just be careful what you download and choose open source software when possible as it's usually free of extra junk-ware that fouls up your computer. Always have adblocker installed on your browser too, that helps avoid annoying popups which sometimes try to infect you with malware. Malware, junkware and other annoying stuff, is as big a problem as viruses nowadays.

This is what paolo is on about, and good mention paolo on the add blocker. Sorry this came up a bit small, but allways go for custom install as some toolbars and security software thats installed in the background? can be a nightmare to get rid of. And a toolbar can take over your browser. the should i remove it software will find anything harlmfull, and if you need to know what a software does? Just click on the - What is it - Button, and it takes you straight to the site and tells you if its safe or not. Here is an image of the software, and i run this once a week. so easy. Must add that this image was taken from google imagies just to use as an example, so i know nothing about the toolbar in question. This software works great for me, but may not work for you.

Microsoft security essentials/Malwarebytes/Superantispyware (sometimes malwarebytes picks things up superantispyware does not and vice versa) Oh and ccleaner for the porn moments. Good to go, not had a problem for years and it's all free
