Thank you all for replying & saving me money. So, I'll stay as I am for now & I already have Malwarebytes anyway. I will read up on Microsoft Security Essentials too though, so I know what's about. chrisjw, I'm a clean living young lady, so I think I'll be fine & leave you, Oneday & Shocking Shiny to the porn, but thanks! OK, you can ignore the young!

This will be my last post in this category for a while . I really don't want to die because i laugh 2 much. richvapers : i will apologize at the beginning...Now : 1.some programs will not run correctly without that toolbar if you uninstall ----my choice : try an alternative---- 2.''should i remouve it'' ...lool...is just a joke ( he want to be a successor of PCDecrapifier) --my choice : if i really want to uninstall a program i use Revo Uninstaller Free (this uninstaller will uninstall almost totally your program) also is better to ask on forums about good programs in the same way we ask here for good hardware to vape. ................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... about CCleaner .... very good program how long you know what you delete. Some programs use the same DLL files ,after delete you will increase the chance of blue screen or some programs will not work at all. about Superantispyware : free version doesn't clean all the spyware from your computer. about MSE (microsoft security esentials) : low rate of detection he is only a silent program , also if i remember good his suport for XP is limited. about Nero : ancient program ,need a lot of resources. There are some other good ,maybe better options than nero. about adblocker : highly recommended ,only 1 cons ---he don't close forced link to open in a new window. my 1 cent opinion : is no point to use paid software at home ,we have now in 2014 free and better alternatives , for almost every program. Example of free and powerful sofware : Foobar2000 (music) ,VLC (video) ,FastStone Image Viewer (pictures) ,Avast Avira Comodo Panda Cloud (antivirus) Revo Uninstaller (uninstaller) ,Kingsoft Office 2013...and many many other.....have a look also here for some reviews and download software www.softpedia.com/ (legal website)

Just a quick yet way to late for OP shout out for the incredibly low resource Webroot Secure Anywhere product. Go to Amazon etc and look for an out of date disk which has a license key... This is a path you can use with many security products... You can upgrade to corresponding latest version for nowt. Webroot has the lowest resource drain of any professional security product that I've come across (returned an aged friends aged machine to near new performance recently).
No act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted

Hi jessHave you considered using Microsoft Security Essentials?, it stands up for comparison (well, it did last time I looked)... it's FREE. NNNOOooooooo !!!! MSE is woefully inadequate, stick with avast (if you want a separate e-mail scanner) or avira (if you don't)

Ditch Windows altogether and switch to something like Ubuntu a linux based operating system
Made the switch over a year ago not looking over my shoulder anymore for those little pesky windows viruses and spyware

I used to use avast till it totally screwed up my pc, then I did the same as oneday and went with microsofts free stuff, never had the slightest issue since.
One thing though is that a virus is just a pest at worst, the way people get your details is by asking for them while pretending to be someone else.
