Anyone fitted a large TV to a wall?

In our new place the TV will have to go in this corner.




To save space I want to fit it higher up on the wall in the corner. I have never done this kind of thing before. Our TV is a 40" Samsung LCD flat screen. I am really worried about doing it due to the heavy nature of the TV.
Has anyone here ever managed to do it themselves? If, so was it easy? I worry about the plaster coming off the wall and the whole thing falling to the ground!!

My Dad has a 50" lcd on his wall, and a couple of weeks ago, he came round and helped Mr Lairey put the 32" on the wall in the spare room.., pretty easy, you just need to make sure you get the correct bracket for it, and you also need to think about cable management... Dad has a piece of white plastic trunking/conduit? Not sure of the right word for it, but it basically hides the hdmi and power cables on the wall

yes, BUT you do need to find out first if its plasterboard - or bricks. it'll matter You can get special brackets for every sized TV but if its not a solid wall you may need bolts (rather than large wall plugs and screws for drill)

very good point of Pepperty - maybe you could also go to a local tv shop and ask what the best brackets are for this specific tv

Thanks for link Lairey. Yes, I don't want cables hanging down the wall. You can see in the photo that the plug points are on the left wall lower down. I will try to run the cabling down the corner. I also want to put a nice little table or cabinet underneath with a plant on top to hide the cabling completely.

@pep good thinking about the walling. I have a sneaky feeling it will be plasterboard, but will ask when we go sign the tenancy on Tuesday. I have been looking on fleabay at brackets. There is a mind boggling array of different types.

do you have a asda 40" tv bracket in there was £20 last week fitted one for a neighbour

As others have said Dolly, the bracket won't be a problem at all, but double-check that you have the appropriate wall fixings. Anyone in the local DIY sheds will be able to advise.

Ahhh, I just presumed they would give you the wall fixings with it. Glad you told me.

Get your T.V brand and model number and then look on the brand website and find out the bracket name and then just google the copy version of it as there should be one for it, loads of manufacturers make copies of them, so you could end up saving loads rather then buying the genuine one for it.

As long as it it fixed corretcly all should be fine, if you are fixing it into a plaster board wall get plaster board wall plugs.

From the photo it looks like the central heating pipes run up that corner and are boxed in. Maybe the cables could be run down inside the boxing too??

Ahhh, I just presumed they would give you the wall fixings with it. Glad you told me.

It'll probably come with screws and rawlplugs, but as others have said, if it's plasterboard it may need something different
