I don't know ??? Wardrobe space ??? We have one wardrobe with 3 doors - one section with the 1 door holds 6 coats, the other section is a normal size wardrobe with 2 doors. In that hung up is every item of clothing we both own. So one normal size flat pack wardrobe between us, and its no where near full. Then we have two bedside unit small drawers each for underwear.

If our offer is officially accepted, mid June I need to start now though as due to circumstances I'll be doing most of it on my own. I've already got rid of loads of clothes/shoes/handbags but still the cupboards and drawers are overflowing. As this is a HA house we need to strip it bare, even lift the laminate and take down the curtain rails Sorry peeps. I started the thread then disappeared. Got so distracted with everything yesterday. The whole place is upside down now. I really don't envy your job Karma. Why do you have to remove the laminate? Surely if it looks ok it can be left?

I know exactly what you mean Dolly, I have been having a sort out too, we have to laugh at ourselves don't we,we women. I have 3 drawers full of every style, colour and in 2 sizes to fluctuate my weight gain/loss, why, I ask myself, have I got a fetish for knickers? Some of them I have never worn yet. And don't get me counting nightwear, dressing gowns and bath robes, I must think they are never going to sell them again. Lets face it I am just a spendthrift hoarder when it comes to these items of clothing. Have given 4 bags of tops/jeans/handbags and boots to charity and am nowhere near finished. I gave a stack of household equipment, books, gardening tools, tv's to Freecycle, no sooner had I posted them the phone was ringing and people were at the door collecting the stuff, mostly young people just moving to their first flat together. Nice to help people out . Hi Phoenix When we first returned from Australia, Freecycle was a godsend to us. I feel really happy to return the favour now. I have lots of furniture and kitchen appliances to give way to them. Even the washing machine we originally got given!

I'm seriously thinking of downsizing as I acquired the 5 bedroom family barn in my divorce and it's draining me completely financially. We've been here 17 years, every bedroom is full both of furniture and crap. I'm dreading going through it all. On the plus side I suppose I won't have to buy new furniture, just pick the best bits and scrap/donate the rest. Now my youngest has moved out there's only me and my eldest left and I know she won't be here forever. I live in Herne bay and work in Canterbury so I think it's time to 'cut my cloth according to my pattern' as my mum used to say and get a smaller place nearer work. I worry if something big went wrong in this place, like a roof leak or boiler failure I simply wouldn't have the resources to fix it. The only snag is that house prices are higher in canterbury so I'd need every penny of value from this house, which in turn will require some investment to tart it up a bit. Big decisions but the time has come I think, so 17 years worth of crap, here I come...daunted much! Hi Hun I think it would be a very wise decision for you to downsize. As you say, the bigger the property the more it costs to run and maintain. The biggest problem we have in downsizing is that most of our furniture is too big to fit in the new place, so, yet more expense. I got very very lucky yesterday. Won a EBay auction for a barely used brown leather LazyBoy double recliner sofa, which retails for £1800. I only paid £400!

Due to us having to pack all our stuff away we had a sort out, all was going well until i got to the wife's cupboards with her clothes.........some of them dated back too the 80's I said to her "what you waiting for them to come back into fashion or something".....she just frowned.....after a long quabble with her she finally said "ok fine, i will give them to charity".......i replied "I know charities are desperate for things like clothing but they ain't that desperate" Big mistake..... BIG mistake....

charon - a lot of men would claim that - have you actually checked your own shoes and cloths - hubby for example has a collection of cables - it's not always us who collect - and come on the few handbags and shoes are a must OMG... Don't get me started about wires and cables. There has been a mini domestic dispute in Dollyland this morning. We have been tussling with each other to bin as much of his crap as we can. After throwing out a pile of cables last night, guess what landed on the door mat this morning? MORE BLOODY CABLES FROM FASTTECH!!!

I found a huge box full of cables in a cupboard. I told DS to take a look and keep anything he thought he might need. Big mistake, the whole box is now in the middle of his room

What's all that about. And tools, god what are they planning on doing with them all? Ask for a job done and they don't have the right stuff? Just about everything you buy flat packed or to install comes with screws so why do men feel the need to have 95 coffee jars full of them? If they have their own shed that's fine, keep whatever junk they want, in the house no-way. Girls if it is cluttering up the general household space whether its newspapers ( yep that's another one ) , magazines, bits and pieces, here is what you do - Plonk everything that is not in the correct drawer or cupboard in bin liners - plop it in the middle of the living room, and say if that is not all put away in its correct place by morning it goes in the bin. Works a treat.
