As you know (mods) I've been having long-term problems with the forum crashing in Chrome, so I've reverted to Opera - a lovely browser when it's compatible but the Proboard smileys (for one thing) didn't used to work, they do now. However, now I can't view pictures in our members' galleries. I can see the headings but can't scroll down to the pics. Have submitted a bug report to Opera - they insist you describe how to reproduce the fault in 3 stages or more > I had to be a bit cheeky. If anyone else uses or can use Opera I'd be grateful if they could check it out for me scylla

Sorry Scylla & Bioxx The photo gallery isn't a standard Proboard facility - just an approved coding hack I'm really hoping that when the new proboard platform is launched, the cross browser issues will be solved.

Scylla, I can't post the code here but could PM it to you if it would help?

I'm really hoping that when the new proboard platform is launched, the cross browser issues will be solved. Thanks for the effort. I would have tried a bit longer but I had an almost new laptop die and am setting up a new one too. While we are at it. This is the only forum where I can log in using different browsers and computers/phone and consequently IPs, all at the same time ???

Scylla, I'm fairly certain it's a javascript issue but as it's a fairly new approved code, I'm surprised it doesn't support all browsers Sorry Bioxx, I'm a tad puzzled - does that mean it's a problem for you? or hopefully a good thing

There has been a java update in the last week, open your Java consul and try updating. Maybe the fix is already there.

Sorry Bioxx, I'm a tad puzzled - does that mean it's a problem for you? No, not a problem for me or hopefully a good thing I don't know I'm not much of a forum person and generally don't talk much. The only forums I usually visit are computer related and I've noticed that I can't log in (again) when I'm already logged from another computer.

I didn't know I had a Java console, Blakey Java doesn't appear to support Opera officially, but anyway I've updated it (it's set to do so automatically but was out of date) and verified it - no change. This is what I see in a gallery, can't scroll down past the bottom

ALSO > I cannot view enlargements of attachment pics I get a big blank square with "IMAGE" in the top left corner. If I save the attachment in Irfanview, it turns out to be NameOfPic. webp, I've Googled and forgot what it said except that it's pronounced "weppy". It saves as per the attachment, unenlargeable. WTF Opera? > EDIT - just found this: Opera is probably the best browser for slow Internet connections, especially if you enable Opera Turbo, a proxy that compresses web pages. Opera 11.10 improved this feature significantly by replacing highly compressed JPEGs with WebP images.
"The most noticeable difference is probably WebP. An open standard image format that was released with some fanfare by Google last year. We thought it was about time to replace the 20 year old JPEG format with something more modern. Overall, WebP produces images with less artifacts and crisper details, even though the image takes less space,"

Scylla, I'll look into it but can't promise a fix. The attachment facility is a built in part of the forum software rather than added coding.
