Someone (apologies, I can't remember who it was) said - when you're making cotton wool wicks, pick up how much you think you need, then put half of it back. Ta mate. I'll try that. - - I've been doing the opposite... but they're all vaping well enough. Been on a microcoil + cotton wool RAMPAGE. 3 x T3S. 2 x mini Protank 1 x smok ARO (still shi*) 2 x evod Both my RBAs. My smok octopus.... Been busy, me.

Thanks for that OneDay Blimey djs i thought i would be busy tonight sounds like you have been on a micro coiling mission Been home a while been playing with diffrent sized wire for my coils gone with 0,25 Kanthal 7 turns on a 2mm drill bit as shiny says in his coiling thread and that sems to be the one comming out at 1.8 ohms. The cotton wool i done a lot less so it just catches the coils on pulling through and left a bit longer on the juice pick ups and whalla brilliant vapour and taste now. I did take the old coil head apart and wanted to look at what coil was in it and not seen anything like it before it has two legs on the tails coming upto the main coil which is just a single wire Enough of me rambling on thanks to all for your advise as allways spot on Off to do some more wicking

They are coming out rather high, so I've cut down on the amount of wraps. (6 with 0.25) (I don't have drill bits...well, not that small anyway, so I'm messing with a set of micro screwdrivers). Trouble is.... nearly all of them are gurgling. Not terrible, but noticeable. Might try a slimmer and longer (more wraps) coil later.

Oh, popping is a 'good' sound - means the coil is well hot, and vapourising the juice so fast it explodes! Just love that sound . . . Gurgling - ha, you are gonna love this. I wonder if you have gone a bit too far the other way, and there is a bit of juice sneaking past the coil without being vapoourised, and finding its way into the top pipe. You might need some more cotton wool in your wick *runs and hides behind the sofa*

Maybe I should squeeze the wraps more? ???

Maybe I should squeeze the wraps more? ??? I was reading about an experiment someone did, and the closeness of the wraps didn't affect the resistance at all. It just affects where it gets hottest first - microcoils are from the middle out. 7 wraps of .25 at 2.3ohms sounds a little high. I use .28 - 8 wraps is 1.6 - 1.8 for me. try 6 wraps, and make sure your atty is making a good connection with your ohms meter.

The wraps have to be touching don't they so it's not coils as such but one unit, and that's what lowers the resistance even though there is more wire used than in a conventional coil?

This is it then, I've not done many but never noticed a drop in resistance either, i think people have been assuming one exists because they get more coils for the same resistance, but as the coils are tighter less wire is used, slightly lowering the resistance per coil. And this, I'd suggest the reason they work slightly differently because the heat is transferred directly to the adjoining coil. Electrically they don't seem any different, or at least in terms of resistance.

My electrical knowledge is non-existent, but I can't work out why 5 wraps of .2 on a conventional coil and 8/9 wraps in a microcoil give the same resistance of about 1.9/2 ohm. Always assumed it was something to do with the fact that the wraps were touching thus losing some resistance. Maybe someone could explain it to an ignoramus like me!

Ive tagged Super-Shiny in hope he dont mind he may be able to answer that one top man with his coils helped me out no end Im still in the learning curve with vaping and all that gos with it but i know i learn something new everyday from this forum. Misses is at work on saturday so going to really play around with coils and wire sizes
