Thanks enjay, but I will wait to see what the SID is like and then get back to you.

Smoketec SID arrived this morning.
Very much lighter in weight than other MODs and comfortable to wear on the lanyard.
Very pleased with it.
Thanks everyone for replying.

Yes Perpetua and thank you for putting me onto it. I will run it for a few weeks and if I am still as pleased with it, I will get another.

Been running the Smoketec SID for a couple of weeks now and here is my report.
On the up side it looks good, is simple to use and it is light weight so it sits well on my lanyard.
On the down side, once the battery power drops below 3.6v, it becomes temperamental, cutting out or changing wattage, necessitating removing the bottom cap to break the power flow and then replacing the cap. This is fine if I am sitting at a desk but a blooming pest if I am driving.
So, whilst I do not like the 3-button system of the Vamo, it is by far the most reliable of the cheaper MODs and I think I will invest in another one of these.

I have two and neither do this.

I had read about the 'cutting out' problem with the SID before I bought mine but went ahead after several SID owners told me they had never experienced this.
Well it's a total PITA. 5 times in a day finally drove me to buy a Provari. Yes it cost 5 times what I paid for SID but it works every time.

Honestly has never been a problem with either of my SID's. Only time I realise the battery is low is when the low volume alert comes on.

I use the SID now only when I know I can take it apart and put it together again, IE not when I am driving. It is simply not a unit I can trust. Like smifee, when I need one I can trust it is the Provari all the way, but that only gets taken out if I have an armed escort with me. (Mrs Lobey).

It doesn't matter what level of charge the battery has. It cuts out at various levels. If it cut out at a certain level that wouldn't be a problem for me. I'd just check battery level and change it when it got close.

I wear my everyday units on lanyards simply because I like "hands free vaping".
I set up the next day's vaping, the night before so that it is just a case of picking it up in the morning, slinging it around my neck and going.
With the SID, I either have to carry another unit in my pocket, just in case, or be driving where I can pull in to adjust the bloomin' thing when it cuts out. It seems daft but I will now have to consider a pass through permanently in the car for when the SID fails on me.
But, like I said, I do like the weight of the SID, so future buys of it are not permanently ruled out.

Reason I love the SID so much is because it's never once let me down. It just works.

From these answers it would appear that the SID has quality control problems judging by the number of owners that have the same problems with it that I have.
