Hi geordie_vaper I had the same problem so a quick PM to greigster who I bought mine from and he recommended a pair of circlip pliers (some folks have bent the GP fork trying to get the base off and these are stronger). You can get them quite cheap on Amazon or Ebay and they work a treat.

i got it of in the end, but now i know what was causing the seepage of juice so its all good now
