Just so I am absolutely sure, If I use a kick in a mech mod then I can use IMR batteries and it is fine?
If I don't use the kick then I need protected batteries or a fuse?

So even without the kick it's fine to use IMR?
It's so confusing, there are so many armchair experts saying different things, I just want to be as safe as possible.

use imr batterys in mech mods
if you are going to go sub ohm use batterys with a high amp limit
but if your just starting using mechs am guessing you will be using betweern 1.2 to 2.5 ohms? if that is the case then imr batterys will be fine and safe, if you go below 1 ohm use high amp batterys

collie2011If you are using a purely mechanical mod (without a kick) then we recommend "Safer Chemistry" batteries these are known as IMR batteries and relates to the nature in which if they did malfunction how they would vent hot gasses. As a beginner simply use the following in a purely mechanical mod and you'll be okay AW IMR batteries Efest IMR batteries Both are "un-protected" but Safer Chemistry. There are others but these 2 are tried ant tested. You can still use a kick with both of these batteries as well.

Thank you The IMR batteries are also fine to be used in vv/vw mods like the Vamo as well, is that right? I feel like i've got my head around it and then I overthink it and confuse myself I have a few weeks to make sure I know what i'm doing before it arrives, it's on the slow boat from China lol.

IMR batteries are always your best bet. Personally I'd stick with aw or efest batteries, or the sony 30amp (green) batteries for those going subohm. Remember in a mech without a kick it's all about the coil and adapting your coil to suit the power you're getting, a mech will also lose power over time unlike a regulated mod as the battery gradually reduces in power. If you decide to start rebuilding coils it's important to have something to read the ohms on before using them on a mech to make sure you stay safe. Mechs are great and a lot of fun but they do need a little more care to be taken than when using a regulated mod.

I'm using AW 18350 and Efest 18500 batteries in my Caravela - when I notice the vape dropping off I change batteries and charge them as soon as possible. I'm only using a 1.5ohm coil as the lowest at the moment, but would rather spend 20 secs popping a fresh battery than have my hand/face blown off when something goes wrong.
