Wow the Efest IMRs can handle really low sub ohm atties! I can't see me going much below a 1.2 if I'm honest, I'm a scaredy cat haha.

It's so confusing, there are so many armchair experts saying different things, I just want to be as safe as possible. I suspect that the confusion arises from the fact that there is no definitive 'right' answer. Unlike, say, a diesel car - put diesel in and it's fine, put petrol in and it's buggered. With mods and batteries there's a breadth of opinion. At one end is the "I've been vaping for months on an old battery I found in a charity shop and I'm still alive" and at the other is the belt & braces safety-above-all stance. Personally I've spent my working life in very safety-conscious environments: chemical manufacture and food production to name but two. This has pushed safety to the top of my agenda, even if it sometimes feels like overkill. For that reason I do use kicks in my mechs with IMR batteries- partly because I prefer a regulated vape and partly because (for me) it seems like the sensible option.

collie2011 , as a newbie to mech mods , all the above advice is spot on. I'm using efest batteries from myepack and have ventured into the 1.3ohm coil region!! lol . As long as you check the ohms of your coils , keep them at above 1.3ohms, you will be fine with imr batteries. When I first Vaped on my mech mod I test fired it at arms length ( that's how paranoid I was) and now I'm loving it!!

But the arms length was then ( first two coil builds) , now coil built, coil check, battery charged, bolt on, vape . Easy peasy.

decoy10.5 amp limit at 4.2volts you'll be pulling just under 9 amps out of that battery and this kind of drain will run that battery down VERY quickly. At 4 volts 8 amps At 3.5 volts 7 amps An 18350 running a 0.5 ohm coil @700mah will not last for long. Why did I give you all those voltages? - because as you vape the battery voltage will drop, quickly.

Oneday hit the nail on the head as none of the batteries we use were specifically designed to be used for vaping so there is no black and white. My rule of thumb (and so far I still have both of them) is 1ohm and above requires a 10A min battery. Lower than 1ohm then use a 30A, it's an over kill but i prefer a good safety margin. IMR batteries are capable of this. Most regulated mods and the kicks require high amps to power them, 10A is fine. ICR and ICR protected batteries, (they make protected versions because they need it!) generally have higher mAh but don't support high discharge rates. personally I wouldn't use any ICR battery. My personal choice, and I feel they cover all bases, is to use Panasonic NCR18650PF 2900mmAh 10A and Sony US18650VTC4 2100mAh 30A which to confuse matters are both the newer hybrid chemistry, but can be considered safer chemistry like an IMR. I haven't gone below 1.3ohms but have the Sony's in case I'm tempted. I use them in my regulated mod, and mechanical mod with or without a kick. The kick adds protection against shorts and over discharge as well as regulating the power. You can add a fuse to a mechanical for extra security. (not needed with a kick) There is some good battery info and safety pointers here that I trust: www.tasteyourjuice.com/wordpress/battery-information/ but like oneday says you can search around for advice but in the end it's down to what your feel happy with.
