For every say centimetre of wire there is a resistance, if you add to that length there is then more wire for the current to get through so it has more resistance.

Think of that like drinking through a straw, the wider the straw the more booze you can suck through it, the longer the straw the harder it is to suck the booze through it, the booze is the electricity and the straw is you kanthal wire.
