some vapers use hemp as the wick, again something I've read somewhere, no clue of thread!

I use my old shoe laces adds a savoury taste to tobacco eliquids , but bamboo wool is my other choice.

Im going to setout today when the wife comes home from work and get some botanics cotton and see if i cant get some butchers string,did you just double it up and the wrap a coil or wrap a coil and then pull it through ?

just treat it as silica use it the same way you will be amazed just fray the end of the string to aid with wicking it works great the butcher will give you it no charge

I prefer ekowool to standard silica wick mainly because it is woven rather than just twisted. That makes it a lot easier to work with, since I find twisted silica quickly unravels into a mess while I am trying to wrangle it into something useful.
The problem I had with cotton wool (in a Kayfun) was that, while it wicked really well and had a good taste (after a quick soak in hot water to remove perfumes etc), it did not hold its shape for long, causing leaks and blockages, wasting a load of juice.
So I use ekowool for both Kayfun (3mm) and Ody (2mm), because it's easier to work with and doesn't fall to bits as soon as you touch it, cut it or try to wrap a wire around it.

Yea i found with silica if you have to tweak or move it you run the chance of it fraying ect +1 for sainsburrys cotton threw some in the taifun and no funny taste,just face altering amounts of absinthe i was the same(why do everybody like cotton wool)and was using asda stuft butttttt i use a little inside my mesh wick in my genni style atty and the tiniest bit warped round the outside were the coil sits it works awesome no dry hits and no metal taste norm associated with mesh wicks,just change the cotton wool round the outside every now and then gota kayfun but not a tayfun

i vowed never to go on SS mesh i nearly had a breakdown lol i kept getting hot spots and burnt metalic horrid taste i tried for over 3 hours one night to get an little I atty to work i ended up lossing the filler screw so threw it away lol i feel your pain i was lucky and found a vid that showed me how to flame it properly after a good few days of trying but going back to sillica burn the holy crap outa it 4 or 5 times and i mean burn then and this is the bit that made it work put juce on the mesh and set it on fire again 4 or 5 times(vid said 3 i thought if im gona do this im gona do it soddin right) and last trick was fold back a 2 mm strip back on the wick so when you roll it up the folded over bit ends up being the end and folded under (this stops shorts) honest with a bit of cotton in side they work rather well and with it on the outside were the coil touches no metal taste
