I set out this morning to try a little test, the test was easy recoil/wick my taifun
Now i used the same amount of wraps, same watts/volts same wire the only change was the wicking material one was 2mm silica and the other cotton.
As expected cotton perfomed better but had that funny cotton taste silica on the other hand imho was horrid so it got me thinking other than cotton & silica what other materials do others use and what do you find better & why ? i have heard of ecowool but i thought that was the same as silica am i wrong?
I love the idea of cotton but the stuff i have must not agree with me re the funny taste im tempted to try some more but would preffer a trusted bran if thats possible is there any vendor out there that sells good cotton in the uk?

Stainless steel mesh works very well for me. Yes, making one is a bit of a faff, but they last for months with minimal maintenance.

there's a thread here on forum using cotton yarn ( ie ball of knitting cotton) as a wick that seemed a good idea and I bought unbleached cheese cloth ( for straining cheese) I just haven't worked out how to utilise it.....

I haven't tried it yet but I have heard butchers string if they use 100% cotton works well ask your local butcher what he uses he will probably give you a meter for free my butcher has and I am going to try it later on tonight

I tried ecowool.
In fact, I've been failing with ecowool for over 14 months - it's useless stuff.
I find it wicks slower than Silica, which is desperate.....
(Unless ecigwizard sold me fake ecolwool....)

I tried ecowool. In fact, I've been failing with ecowool for over 14 months - it's useless stuff. I find it wicks slower than Silica, which is desperate..... I cant comment on ecowool i was going to get some from the vape mesh company i got silica from them but im tasting an off flavour off of it maybe boiling it will help? might be one to try i was looking at the voodoo whool from stealthvape a google search on it reveals some good feedback I just dont know what it is perhaps its the juice as with red astaire i still get the funnt cotton taste but not as bad as i do with my absinthe mix it might even be absinthe concentrate itself perhaps i need to trial the other absinthe i have with cotton/silica

I get on fine with ekowool, silica and cotton, just use different wicks for different set ups but the taste isn't very different, just a little. It's usually user error so you end up with hot coil taste which is pretty bloody awful, especially doing a big lung hit lol

I've heard that Asda and Tesco cotton wool have a funny perfumy taste. I use Sainsburys that has no taste. I've also tried the cotton yarn but it seems to mute the flavour for me. I didn't like silica or ecowool too much faff and I had a personal thought that maybe asbestos based wick wasn't too good. I haven't heard about any problems with it though just my personal preference.

I use Boots the Botanics organic range cotton wool, i recoil for myself & 4 others & no one has had a funny taste from it, if you decide to get some its not with the normal cotton wool so ask an assistant.
