I took up mixing my own a while back, when my local shop changed supplier and I couldn't find any Anise fluids in my area at low strengths (I was smoking 40+ a day, yet I still started @ 12mg). Lowest Anise I could find local was 18mg, and that would have been a step backwards.
Thanks to Lisa @ c9v I got everything I needed in one purchase.
My first ever test mix was 100%PG 12mg Anise. I used the DKS Anise flavouring @ 5% to get the taste hit I wanted. However it was rough on the throat so I went 50/50 PG/VG, but I just couldn't get the flavour back even @ 10%.
I took advice on another forum, and my vapemail today included 3x10ml Anise flavour from FlavourArt Italy.
First test mix, 12mg 50/50 with 5% flavour and OMG!! I'm in another world. The difference is chalk and cheese. So much so I've made a little change. I'm now @ 8.5mg nic, 60/40 with 5% Anise flavour and my mouth is just watering like the river Humber.
Nothing against DKS, but their Anise is defo below par if this is anything to go by. My all-dayer is now exactly as I originally intended, the drop in nic is a bonus too, as well as the clouds I'm making.
Moral of the story, if you try a flavour you want to like but it just isn't right get it from somewhere else. In just 6 weeks I've gone from 40+ per day to just 5ml @ 8.5mg with TOTAL satisfaction.
I love it here btw, at least us brits know how to spell flavour, not like our US cousins (even though the spell checker is US).

I mostly vape h2omg or quintessence, might give anise a go. Will put it on the list next time I'm ordering.

Since I cut out nic altogether a few weeks ago, I've been vaping Flavour Arts Anise too, from time to time. I mix it at 6.66% [2ml conc. in 30 ml mix].
I also use Decadent Vapours Absinthe @ 20%.

I was wondering about absinthe myself, but never wanted to take a risk with the unknown. I take it it's an anise based flavour then? How does it compare with straight anise?

Good to hear you've had some success with your persistence Ripshod . . . they can vary ever so much from brand to brand as you've found. Decadent Vapours Absinthe is a firm favourite of mine, it's a bit more Pernody ( if such a word exists! ) and a fuller flavour than a straight Aniseed for me.

Perpetua has got it right, I think. My tastebuds are pretty poor after 50 years of cigs so my views are very subjective but I find the absinthe has an edge that's missing from the anise. It makes a nice break as I can't vape one flavour for too long.

I don't think you'll be disappointed Ripshod, although you'll need to use it in a glass tank of some sort. Another concentrate you might like if you enjoy aniseedy type flavours, is F'arts Pernoir Tea. www.flavourart.co.uk/blended-flavours-10ml.htmlI really like this one as well.

thanks for the input Perpetua, scotsman and prowler. Gonna add some DV Absinthe to my next order to play around with No problem mate i have not tried DV absinthe i have a bottle of DV absinthe coming so will post back and let you know. I have been using kandi hed absinthe i do have flavour west aswell but i preffer the kandi head to the flavour west one we`l see if DV is better. Check out minted fairy < this was one that i found online but altered it to suit me and i love it! i`m working on one thats kind of the same but instead on menthol it has eucalyptus and a tiny dash of lime while its good i think i can get it better with some anise in there and maybe not the lime If you try kandi hed absinthe atleast for me it has to be 20% to get that "fix" but you migh only need say 5% / 10% ....i cant be held responsible if you try 20% and black out lol, some you win some you loss but when you win its a great buzz

Would be greatly appreciated scotsman. I may just play your 'slap up' mix idea, eucalyptus is something I've never thought of using. I should have my absinthe tuesday *edit*Messed that quote up, mmmm.

Now that one has me intrigued now. My FA order goes in on friday so maybe a couple of bottles to play with. If it's anything like I imagine nomnomnomnom!!

It's definitely an Aniseedy/Liquorish type flavour Ripshod . . . I mixed my trial batch at 20%, but think I might do the next lot at 25%/ add a fruity flavour to it. Or do both.
