... that either keeps the free end of wire slyly hidden from you so it can't be found no matter how hard you look, or worse, the wire makes a bid for freedom and unspools wildly, turning into a whirling dervish of wire.
How do you keep your wire spools tidy? Tiny kanthal that is.

A elastic band around it, stops the wire from uncoiling but can still unwind & then just leave the end sticking out

I take my wire-cutters and put four diagonal cuts (one for each quadrant) and clip the wire into one of those. However, do not follow my path and when you can't locate wire-cutters on the chaos of my desk, reach for your Flush Cutters of Great Usefulness and try and make the slot... for they shatter most frighteningly and one jaw will fly off with speed. Tom (waiting for FT order containing Flush Cutters of Great Usefulness *2)

Peeps I scrounged one of my granddaughters hair "bobble band". Wider than elastic band, thus covering the whole width of the wire spool. Just pull end of wire out as required. Bobble keeps rest under cover at all times. Cheap fix and it "WORKS".
