Today has been a nightmare, we cant have the windows open on a night in this weather because we get mossies, ( or something similar - small fly things that bite you to death )- I am talking bedroom ceiling goes black if you have window open and light on, and now I have had to close all my windows and doors through the day also. Sounds like you need some fly screens. We've got sliding fly screens on all our windows & patio doors mainly due to mosquitos, but obviously they stop all the other little blighters getting in too. My OH makes 'em & fits 'em, shame you're in the UK or he could have made some for you. Ive seen those advertised in the Spanish newsapers. ( Costa Blanca ) We need something , I get bit to death I don't want getting stung as well.

Sounds like a wasp nest and in total seriousness , wasp nests should be taken care of by pest control , rather then DIY. How do you find it though? I live in a 3 storey block, so I can see around my outside space, but no-one elses? Just asked a neighbour who lives next door and she has been out just got in opened her windows and got 3 in. You or the pest control person will visit , they will walk around the perimeter of the property. Wasps use 'lanes' when flying to and from the nest, this will be easily identified by the trained pest controller and the nest will be located that way.

Surely you can also get some in the UK, some company is bound to make them over there, OK probably not as popular in the UK as over here but someone somewhere has gotta be making them. Ours look quite posh with their aluminium frames which match our window frames and patio door frames. The old ones we used to have years ago were just made with thin wooden frames & a bit of netting stretched and tacked on the wood, they weren't sliding ones though back in them days, twas a right problem when trying to clean the windows haha.

Yes , but tell them clearly that you think you have a wasp nest , and do they charge for checking , some do some don't , but always ask .
Tell them about the property ie apartments etc to give them an idea of what to expect.

sammy13 - if you rent the place report it also to the agency or the landlord - if you own it - get together with the neighbours - so you could divide possible costs

sammy13 Hi Sammy. Sorry I must of missed this thread last night. I was warn out so I bet I missed most of the chat last night. I have not read though the whole thread so sorry if stuff I say gas already been posted. I was working out side yesterday. And I did not see one wasp. In truth I've think I've only seen one or two this year. Quite a few bees around by me but not many wasps. I would say that there is a nest somewhere by you.. your best bet will be to report it to the buildings owner. If you don't get an luck with the owner trying to find the nest and dealing with it then you should report the problem to the council. If the building is owed. Y the council. And they don't sort the problem then you will have to go through there complaint system. Until then your best best is to get a fly screen or if money is tight then a large .net curtains should do it. If you have the money you could try one on them electric bug zapper things. We have two. Cheap ones and I have to say they don't really do the job. Even the flys don't seem to be worried by them so if you buy one make sure you get a good one. The cheap ones are not even worth the petrol in tasking them to the local tip. Hope you get this sorted and not plagued by the the whole summer. Keep us updated with how you get on

Good luck Sammy on getting a fast solution but can I add if all else fails to put the bee movie on for them. I am sure they will enjoy it.
I am petrified of them. I would be out of there like a shot.
