I know a lot of you work or have been perhaps at home in the garden, or outside most of the day.
Is there a problem with wasps at the moment or do we have a nest or something??
This morning I opened the windows , and quickly closed them again due to wasps coming in.
This afternoon between 2pm and 4pm I had my patio doors open, I have a fly swatter ( 5 for a pound in the pound shop ), and I killed 16 wasps that were on the inside of my living room window in two hours. I went to sit out around 4.30pm, and I had a swarm of them around me.
I am in a flat, so it is a balcony, at the mo, I have no flowers or bushes nothing, just pottery meercats out there, I have not cooked since yesterday lunch, and have not sprayed anything so nothing is attracting them.
I am now indoors but have a window open in the bedroom, and just had to swat 3 inside on the window?

Ant powder doused/puffed in the cracks around external door frames and anywhere you see them trying to get in. Don't inhale the stuff! Do it late evening or early morning before they are sizzled on nectar and angry.

sammy13 ... I've had one or two over the last few weeks, and I'm surrounded by bushes and trees. So, to have 16 inside within 2 hours, to me, sounds like a problem, unfortunately. Are your neighbours having a similar experience?

Sounds harsh to use ant powder but if they are trying to get in to make a nest, but it is the only way to get rid if they are bothering you.

Last year we had 2 nests removed, one from the other side of the building and one from down the end, the 88 year old chap saw a nest right above his door, funnily enough though I got the odd one but nothing major.
Today has been a nightmare, we cant have the windows open on a night in this weather because we get mossies, ( or something similar - small fly things that bite you to death )- I am talking bedroom ceiling goes black if you have window open and light on, and now I have had to close all my windows and doors through the day also.
I know from last year they will not come out unless you know you have a nest, and I don't know where to look.
I will try the ant powder I have 2 tubs of that , as we get ants as well, not sure how good I will be at puffing it around, I may end up looking like a snowman lol.
Anything else known to deter them? Can you still get those sticky strips that you hang? Obviously I cant hang them on the open door entrance, but I could pop them on the sides, and on the outside balcony- just some cheapo ones if anyone knows where to pick them up please.

Sounds like a wasp nest and in total seriousness , wasp nests should be taken care of by pest control , rather then DIY.

Sounds like you need some fly screens. We've got sliding fly screens on all our windows & patio doors mainly due to mosquitos, but obviously they stop all the other little blighters getting in too. My OH makes 'em & fits 'em, shame you're in the UK or he could have made some for you.

I live in a 3 storey block, so I can see around my outside space, but no-one elses? Just asked a neighbour who lives next door and she has been out just got in opened her windows and got 3 in.
