My first coil

Couldn't wait any longer so I have used the wire and wick that came with my Squape and built my very forst coil!!

I made do with tools that were hanging around, I really just wanted to get the feel for it, wound the wire on a jewellers screwdriver, the wire is very thin guage so I knew I'd need to have a good few turns, I lost count but stopped when I thought it felt right, put it into the Squape, managed to thread some wick through (not easy because the coil being of thin guage was flopping all over the place, measured the ohmage and I got 5.5ohm... oops, a little high, still lets see what it does, AND IT WORKS

OK it takes a second or two to warm up, but I am now vaping on my very first attempt at a coil

This has taught me a few things:

1. I need to stock up on the RIGHT materials for the job
2. Its not as hard as I thought it was
3. My eyesight isn't as good as it used to be

But all in all I'm proud of myself tonight

As VapingBad says, a decent blow torch and i'll say a decent pair of tweezers helps too

Not quite, in fact there isn't a great deal of vapour, its a bit like smoking a Silk Cut Extra Extra Mild, BUT I BUILT IT

Nice one.

A handy thing to remember is thinner wire equals higher resistance, think of it like water through a straw, the fatter the straw the more water can get through quicker and easier. So thinner wire means less wraps to get the same sort of ohms as thicker wire.

You didn't say whether you compressed the coil together so you can't see light through it.

As much as I could with tweezers, fingers & no heat source

If you have it on the mod and fire it up release the button and before it cools use the tweezers.....but do this before you put the cotton in

But putting it on the battery with no idea of the range you have set the coil at turns my hair white

Nice one Q - there's a great satisfaction to be had from vaping a homemade coil, isn't there? Once you have the correct gauge wire and you've tried a few different coils, you'll be making them in your sleep!
Ron's suggestion about heating the coil once it's in position on the mod is what I now do, although I do have a blowtorch just in case; just remember to take the power off before going anywhere near with the tweezers!!

Really that's all I use bar the blowtorch which I use Q and cotton wool for a micro coil

Get some more tweezers and you'll be fine. I think Clivia had a good link for some ebay ones

Thank you Super-Shiny I could have done with that last night, I shall now memorise it all for future reference, wish I'd ordered a second guage of kanthal now, would have been useful to experiment
